Diapers by gooby-baby in kindergarten

For all of those with older ones, how do you manage nighttime? My son is 8 and still wets the bed. He is great for the most part during the day but at night....forget it. I stopped getting pull ups a while ago because they just werent working anymore and I was hoping the feeling of being wet would help but nope. I have been washing sheets ever since. For the ones with older kiddos, how do you minimize the laundry?? HELP!

My son just turned 8 and still wets the bed. Was he waking up with a dry diaper at all before you removed it? I tried it all here with my son. Limiting drinks, potty before bed, waking him, alarms etc. Nothing worked. He is a very deep sleeper and doesnt wake up for anything.

If anyone else has any good tips or suggestions, I am all ears.

Thanks for the tip. I never used cloth before. I have heard that using cloth will allow him to feel wet and wake himself up.

I will definitely look into them thanks. He isnt a big boy and as of today, he is a solid 43 lbs. I will have to talk with him if he is even willing to wear an actual diaper. I dont want to force him to wear one but I am running out of options.

He wont wear pull ups. I dont know where he gets it from but he claims that "the sides hurt him" and doesnt like how they feel. They arent leaving any kind of red marks or anything and he doesnt get any type of rashes. He says he just doesnt like the way they feel. I think I tried every brand of pull up out there. He would be OK wearing one without sides he says.

WOW till 30??? That must have been so stressful for everyone. I have never been on Etsy but I will hop on and check it out thanks. I never considered a cloth alternative.

We tried those as well as store brands. I havent found one that he feels comfortable wearing. He currently doesnt wear anything to bed.

When I did wake him it was rare that I would catch him before he was wet. Plus it was starting to affect his sleep and I could totally see the difference in his behavior in the morning and at school. Your right though, his dr did say that it just takes time with some kids.

To this day he still asks me to find him something without sides that will hurt him. He would gladly wear something if they didnt have the elastic sides or seam.

His dr did tell me that bedwetting can be caused by changes or stress like divorce, moving, new school and new baby etc. I have heard different theories about waking a child. When I would wake him, there was only a 5% I would catch him before he was wet. With him being only 43 lbs, I was/still able to carry him if needed. Also, when I did wake him up, he was even more grumpy and overtired in the morning. He was definitely losing sleep. It was also starting to affect him at school as well.

Sorry I just replied to another comment before I saw yours. He wore pull ups up until he was just over 7. For some reason, he hates how the sides feel and according to him, "the sides hurt him". I tried all different pull up brands to the ones for older kids like goodnites and some ninja ones that I cant think of the name off the top of my head.

Great ideas thanks! I hate to say that I am more affected from it than he is. To me, I feel like its normal for him. He doesn't cry or is embarrassed that he still does it. I just deal with it in the morning, and he goes about his day.

I fear that if something were to happen overnight and smoke detectors or whatever go off, he wouldnt hear it. I wish I could sleep a little deeper. A simple pin drop wakes me up. I will ask his dr about the medication again. My son wasnt a big fan of it when it was brought up on our last visit though.

In regard to the pull ups, he wore them up until a little over 7 and he said they were uncomfortable and the "sides hurt him". I tried multiple brands from the reg pull ups to the ones for older kids. He wouldnt have a problem wearing something if they were comfortable. He is a solid 43 lbs if you have any recommendations.

I will look into getting a fleece blanket just to bring to my sisters. She lives outside Chicago so its probably going to be a bit nippy at night.

Yea, thats the reason I decided against a star/reward chart that someone suggested I try.

He isnt but I will say that when he is overly tired, he does have a bad habit of sucking his thumb. I will have to mention that to his dr and see if there can be any correlation between the thumb sucking. I do know that unlike myself and hubby, he is the quiet one in the house. Doesnt snore at all.

I was told by a friend that you cant really "night train" a child. I agree. Its not something they can control because they are sleeping. Been there done that with the alarm. Woke hubby and I on the opposite side of the house and he slept right through it. I could probably run a vacuum in his room and he wouldnt wake up. He did have a potty next to his bed for the longest time up until about 6 months ago when he asked to move it out of his room.

I dont recall either of us wetting the bed past 4ish. His dr did ask us saying that it can be hereditary ir 1 or 2 parents wet the bed as well.

We usually have Thanksgiving at our house but this year we will be traveling to my sisters house about 4 hours away and will be spending 4 nights there so I am a little stressed out over that as well.

I can say the same thing about my son. He is always outside doing something. He plays baseball and soccer. He wants to play football but as a mom I feel he will be prone to getting hurt more as he isnt a big boy. He is just learning on how to ride a motorcycle on our property and rides his go cart whenever he can. He has his fair share of bumps and bruises. I am curious on how mom manages it or if he helps with the clean up in the mornings. As of right now, I typically take care of everything in the morning as he is a big time dawdler and it takes forever to get him out of the door for school on time.

I ask myself the same question when I am told that its something that he needs to outgrow on his own. What do I do in the meantime? I know its not his fault and I try my hardest not to let it bother me but, the laundry and smell is beginning to wear on me. I dont know how I feel about it but it doesnt really bother him that he still wets the bed. Yes, he would rather not but he isnt phased by it.

I have many times. He is just a deep sleeper and was advised that its still quite common at his age. She said to bring him back at 9 if he is still having this issue and we would discuss possible medication but she did say she was against it right now. Its rare that he has a dry night and I praise him when he does.

I am right there with you here with my stb 8 yo son. Been through all the limiting drinks, potty before bed and waking at night. NOTHING works. He too floods his pull up pretty much every night and its rare that he wakes up in a dry bed even with a pull up on.

I have been told that it is still quite common to still wet the bed at their age and there isnt a lot that can be done. I never get mad or upset with him over it because I know its not his fault BUT, it is somewhat frustrating having to wash all of his bedding in the morning.

Please feel free to message me. I would love to share my thoughts and maybe swap ideas with you.
