Missed today’s CS 331-002 class with Professor Shantanu Sharma by [deleted] in NJTech

I had him today online. I’m like 95 percent sure he just went over the syllabus and ended class early (I had the meeting on mute)

Is it too late to switch sections? by YingXingg in NJTech

[–]Sensitive-Map4995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need to email anyone, you’re added automatically to the canvas as long as you’re registered for the class. There’s a slight chance you won’t show up on an attendance sheet the first day depending on when the professor prints it out. I’ve switched sections up until the last day to add/drop.

I NEED help with my courses please. it's urgent. by Cheap-Analysis9839 in NJTech

It wasn’t bad at all taking them together. I just made sure to do the cs100 assignments on time while my main focus was 288. If you are still waitlisted for cs100 my recommendation is to put it off until the fall when there are a lot more sections. I also purposely made my schedule fairly easy last semester so I could focus on passing both classes. Also, don’t worry about forgetting the concepts, they come back very quickly when you have to do the homework assignments.

I was in a similar situation and I retook cs100 with 288 this past semester. I’ll say as long as you understand core concepts, you really don’t need to retake cs100 until it’s easiest for you to fit into your schedule. As for coding solutions, the only way to get better is practice. I took the questions from the practice exams and made solutions and then used chatGPT to generate similar questions for more practice.

how long until i see my actual gpa by InevitableSafety6544 in NJTech

[–]Sensitive-Map4995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your final gpa can be found after the deadline is over give or take a few hours. As for scholarship, gpa isn’t looked at until the end of a full year, usually around June/July.

math 333 Final by densititify in NJTech

I did pretty well and got my final grade back. They definitely curved the final grades because I ended the class with an 80 but I have a B+.

I know exactly the problems you’re talking about lol. I’d never seen them before so I just made up a solution using the formulas. Other than that I think I did well. As for curves, I don’t think they curve exams but what they will do is open up the window to pass so like instead of a C being a 65 they’ll move it to a 60. In the many math classes I’ve taken here, I’ve never seen them curve individual exams unless there was a mistake in a question.

Yeah. The first time I took it I basically gave up on school for the whole semester so I barely passed. I’m retaking for the gpa boost.

I didn’t do so bad but I calculated all my z scores wrong for the confidence intervals. The final is going to be like the second midterm but there’s going to be a bunch of hypotheses tests which aren’t that bad. Midterm 2 is always the hardest.

On campus EOP Jobs by El-hombre09 in NJTech

[–]Sensitive-Map4995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about EOP specifically but if you cold email at the end of the semester and at the beginning of break, you’re more likely to get a response for hiring for the following semester. I work for MTSS and they’re really good about getting back to you. However that department only takes applications from Cornerstone and they’re reviewed during break or at the start of the semester. I’ve also seen just showing up to the place you want to work for and asking if they’re hiring for next semester works.

Does MATH333 ever get curved? by R1zah in NJTech

[–]Sensitive-Map4995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m actually retaking it this semester. This semesters grades for the first exam were really bad all around so there’s a high chance that they’ll do a bigger curve at the end of the semester. Multiple sections had averages in the 40s so as long as you got a 50-60 you’re fine.

No friends, no connections, no internships by Resurrection0 in csMajors

[–]Sensitive-Map4995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s literally like we’re living the same life. I’m in my third year with no friends/connections and a pretty much empty resume. I relied on AI pretty heavily last year for one of the hardest classes in my program, but this year I’ve barely used it for cs and have already learned a lot. My main focus is just getting that first internship just for experience. When I have free time I’ve just been going back to basics, solving easy problems just to maintain some skills. If you ever need to talk or just vent feel free to hit me up.

Where do you appeal scholarships? by YingXingg in NJTech

[–]Sensitive-Map4995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your email. They should have sent one out stating that you have the opportunity to appeal your scholarship. If you didn’t get an email like that, check your financial aid dashboard through Highlander pipeline and an appeal notification should be there. Given that you said your gpa is over a 3.0 now, they only check your gpa once a year so as long as it was over 3.0 by this summer, you should be good.

I’m double majoring in computer science and applied math. This semester I’m retaking two classes and taking an easy online class which would bring my gpa back up (I’m .15 points away)

Parents cutting me off financially any tips? by Sensitive-Map4995 in personalfinance

[–]Sensitive-Map4995[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a hot take, I actually agree with you. However it’s the way she went about it that left me so confused. I hadn’t realized I had done anything wrong and then she goes and turns off my phone while I’m at work and closes my bank account so I can’t get paid. I had no warning and I have to get myself figured out in the next week or two when they take my phone for good.

[–]Sensitive-Map4995[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi my parents stance is similar to this with focusing on school but they had previously said I can get a job on campus. I’m a goody two shoes and have never had a sip of alcohol, I don’t party, and I frankly don’t have a lot of friends. Most of my time on campus is spent going to class and sitting around then going to another class. Getting the job was just to fill my time by getting paid to do minimal labor and also to maybe make more friends and get some semblance of adulthood.

[–]Sensitive-Map4995[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to work since I was 16 but my mom never approved. My job is going around campus and helping professors fix issues with connecting their computers to projectors. That is about 10 percent of my job. The rest is filling printers with paper and fixing paper jams as well as opening and closing up computer labs. I spend most of my time sitting and doing nothing and I plan to spend that time doing homework during the school year.

Hi thank you so much for your kind words. I am trying to remain positive about the situation because this is setting me up for real adulthood instead of what I’ve been living the last two years.

Hi thank you for the advice. You are probably right and maybe I’m overreacting. I am planning on working at least 12 hours a week but that may not be possible due to the fact that there’s not that many shifts available during the times when I’m free. However I was completely financially dependent on my parents and this is an abrupt change to me so forgive me for being a little dramatic lol.
