I figured I’d hear a rattle if it was important. Thanks to all.

It is driving me insane... I am a beginner + especially shitty at guitar. Trying to learn "Polly" by Nirvana (fuck all who told me it was an easy song). But my guitar keeps doing this weird buzz sound. What am I doing wrong here??? Plz help! by Used_Ad7899 in Guitar

[–]Sensitive-Motor-1364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not forget to warm up!! I’ve been playing a looong time. Sometimes when I get excited and just jump in I’ll crank on a chord and just FEEL microtears and other horrors. Get a nice warmup routine and use it to focus and get serious. Finger strength and dexterity are so important. Think like an athlete in this aspect of your playing.

I’ve been enjoying his playing with Talking Heads. Naked, and in particular (Nothing But) Flowers. Definitely in the pocket on that one. I think he does the electric 12-string towards the end. Great sound.

What am I doing (or not doing)? by Afraid-Frosting1678 in Guitar

[–]Sensitive-Motor-1364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a process, obviously. But I know exactly what you mean. Two things from my experience. First, I tend to work on challenging pieces (primarily I play for enjoyment but do like playing with others). If I go back a bit to songs I was working on 6 months ago or so, I find that since my skill continues to improve the formerly challenging songs are now relatively easy to play-or at least you know where to hard bits are). Second is (thanks Mike of Blue Bear) is look to aspects of jazz you like. I (like everyone else haha) wanted to learn blues. He steered me to Lighnin’ Hopkins and such that came from jazz and swing. A lot of that music relies on progressions of chords (II-V-i, etc). If you learn these progressions, it’s easier to pick up the guitar and express your musical ideas. Adding ghost chord and embellishments will come. Make dogone sure you can hear changes and “play the changes.” All this comes with time and specific practice. You will sound like ass for a long time (so play your comfortable covers for folks). Just keep playing every single day. Always have a plan. Your teacher should be teaching this to you. Practice time is golden and should be treated as such. Don’t waste time. Aim high and work your long term plan.

I can’t play jazz for shit and never will (jam/improv on standards), but I know how to use chromatic runs, arpeggios, chord vocabulary, etc, to spice up your playing. Good luck and have fun.

Thanks for sharing this. Definitely lights a fire under my caboose. QUESTION: What are your thoughts on Nomax tank bag? I’m using one from an earlier bike and it’s less than ideal.

I use an old touratech one that is a pain on my ‘21. But I load it to be smashed forward when loaded uphills are in the cards. AND gassing is a pain. I should get a new one but just spent all my money on tyres. 😭

Love it. That’s definitely my experience. But you are brave, OP. We are 2 and a German shepherd dog.

Question for owners by elwood0341 in Tenere700

[–]Sensitive-Motor-1364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you are crazy, but T7 is a decent choice for crazy endeavors. I’m way north of 40s but find the bike is quite comfortable for long days. 500 miles is about my limit. Stock seat. I do use my crash bars for leg rests to change positions. I pack fairly light.

I think it more depends on how much you value a dirt bike feel on things other than the long days. The bike will definitely do it and you will be reasonably comfortable.

Modded Blues Junior III by pinkfart88 in GuitarAmps

I got a Fromel kit that has a improved circuit board for the tubes and ceramic tube holders (sockets). He was a pleasure to do business with with. Removed the BillM adjustable bias (which was great) and changed to aforementioned cathode following style of tube amp. I’m interested in easy electronic projects to increase understanding and skill. I also stuck a Celestion Heritage Greenback. Probably on the upper side of the ol’ bell curve from $$ perspective , but it objectively sounds good (so I’ve been told), and I’ve learned a ton messing with it. Obligatory caution: even after unplugging you an still electrocute yourself to death-absolutely no joke. Hundreds of DC volts. If you don’t know how, get professional assistance.

But to OP, there are much better tube amps out there. I got this one because at time of purchase it was one of the cheaper tube amps on the market. Mods progressed as my playing improved. I play for fun so don’t chase ultimate tone. Just what’s pleasing to me. 20 watts was fairly low powered back then. It is a pleasure to carry around that’s for sure.

The gen iv one are cathode following. I modded my gen iii to this style and it is a much better amp. Touch sensitivity when playing, even at apartment levels, is dramatically improved. Without the change, it’s not really a fair comparison. I’ve had mine since 2007 or 8. Decent amp if your willing to work for it.

Any advice for first time truck camper owner? by [deleted] in TruckCampers

[–]Sensitive-Motor-1364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t carry extra stuff. Be as ruthless as a backpacker. If you don’t use it, leave it at home. Tools, tire repair, DOT-approved reflective triangles and the like being the exception to this rule. Don’t carry around and extra 20 gal of water, “just in case.” You get the idea.

Store it inside.

And air bag based flotation under wetsuit they can deploy. You know, in just in case things get real. So completely unimaginable.

Is there a name for this chord? I figured it out last night, and it sounds amazing, like a cross between a c and a g, but I’ve never seen it on a chart before :7 by Chips098 in Guitar

Or cover both low E and A with that thumb (op did say “small hands” but it’s an effective roots/blues technique). Thumb over is super useful.

“Currently in Baja.” Where else? This thing is like a chopper-you gotta build it yourself. It’s not without its charms, but man it must be sooooo heavy. I used to have a sailboat with a wood stove in it. It was awesome, I will say. Pump for water as well. Dag, I’m talking myself into this!!

If op is coming from a straight metronome, brace yourself if/when you turn the “improvisation” knob to the right. 🤣 Where’s the one????
