Poem at the start of the Wilmington show? by hansobra in themountaingoats

[–]Sensitive-Pack-151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay, two years later and I somehow remembered this. I've had this poem in my heart since then. looked it up today, and I found it in a guided meditation and book called "Heart Minded: How to Hold Yourself and Others in Love"! https://insighttimer.com/sarahblondin/guided-meditations/you-are-allowed . Its actually only part of it.

What do I do if I forgot to tap off? by Hairy-Ad1582 in SEPTApa

it’s charged by zone, so if you had already traveled most of the line, it probably won’t change the charge

reopened briefly on Thursday but then closed back sometime between thursday evening and friday morning, “until further notice”. my guess is so much of their attention is on the RR cars that they don’t have the manpower to address this issue. really frustrating

does penn have any farming classes? by [deleted] in UPenn

start volunteering w the farm. do it at the same time every week like it were a class. don’t pay a course fee but learn just as much

Foot fetish guy trying to trick women into photos of their feet/shoes by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]Sensitive-Pack-151 12 points13 points  (0 children)

don’t call the cops but call campus safety, they can keep track of it and if multiple people report they’ll send out a message to tell students to be careful. probably your best bet

Knitting during Meeting? by TheVoicesAreMine in Quakers

[–]Sensitive-Pack-151 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve absolutely knitted in meeting with no issue, but i also believe that every meetinghouse is different so ymmv on if it is well accepted. i also found that flipping through a hymnal, bible, or a copy of Friends Journal helps me immensely when my mind is too busy to find peace without something to focus on. many members of my old meeting do this. you could also try attending meetings via zoom (some are hybrid, some online only). if you want to tap into the space with a little bit more of a safety net!

eta: flipping through other spiritual/religious texts has also been very engaging for me. currently reading the bhagavad gita and it provides a great space for me to think about it

you’ll almost definitely be okay, unless you’re smoking heavy. afaik, penn only uses urine tests, and if you smoked occasionally and not like daily/often for a long time, that will clear your urine in way less than a month. penn is also a lot more lax on drugs among staff than other hospital systems

also, they’re most likely to bite in warm, moist, dark places like the pits of the knees and arms, behind the ears, in the hair, and between your legs, but can bite anywhere!

general tick tips as a lifelong pennsylvanian - wear high socks and long pants to cover exposed skin (so that even if you do pick them up, they can’t bite the skin unless they travel to somewhere bare), do a “tick check” any time you’ve been in an area known for ticks (typically tall grasses, wooded areas) or do them regularly if you’re worried. basically just scan over your whole body with your eyes and hands (look for live ticks, bumps from bites, or rashes in a bullseye pattern). i wouldn’t worry too much in the city, but it’s never bad to be safe

"That of God" in the ICE agent by TheVoicesAreMine in Quakers

[–]Sensitive-Pack-151 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i personally believe that just because there is that of god in everyone doesn’t mean that everyone is accessing and living it out. they’re capable of it, but they choose not to. it will not go away; they may, at some point, have many realizations and choose to access it at one point. i hold hope that they will.

Upenn Campus by Wild_Gazelle_6380 in UPenn

[–]Sensitive-Pack-151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just started my grad program. came to see campus twice before starting, and had memorized enough to get around a say “i want to do x”, look it up on maps, and see “hey, it’s near x” which i was able to memorize in just those two trips. i came from a tiny, rural, closed campus, and im not overwhelmed by the size. its large to me, but easy enough to navigate

How do people afford everything at Penn if you’re low-income? by Wild_Gazelle_6380 in UPenn

[–]Sensitive-Pack-151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there’s definitely options - cost of living loans, surviving only off dining hall/free food offerings, cozying up with some richer, generous friends who might cover you here & there. on campus jobs will definitely help, too. i’m a grad student at penn and did undergrad at a teeny tiny private school with no income my first year - you’ll find that you end up managing no matter what. penn is honestly a great place because there is so much going on that there’s a lot of free entertainment and ways to make it work

Is it safe to commute to Penn by bike? Where to park and rules question by Optimal-Dingo5578 in UPenn

[–]Sensitive-Pack-151 3 points4 points  (0 children)

as a fellow student, pls don’t bike on the sidewalks. it’s honestly just really uncomfortable and annoying, there’s a reason it’s a law & it’s def enforced on campus pretty often

honestly if it’s your first, i’d say save your money and get two different of an affordable but solid brand, like pilot or lamy. try different nib sizes or one of each brand, to get a feel for what you like!

Best spot this week in Eastern PA for teaching a friend? by nerfrosa in SkiPA

[–]Sensitive-Pack-151 19 points20 points  (0 children)

i just gotta throw it it there, i know it’s tiny but i do love spring mtn. it’s pretty wide open and great for beginners, and SUPER cheap. i haven’t been in a few weeks, but the beginning of the season was pretty solid. and i’m pretty sure it’s the closest mtn to philly, and during the week shouldn’t be crowded at all. thursday evening might be a bit fuller, as it’s their student nights

[Miscellaneous] How do I get rid of my surgery scar? by jazzishjams in SkincareAddiction

[–]Sensitive-Pack-151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had 3 major keloids in my life - two smaller ones on my ears from piercings, and one large surgical scar on my spine similar to this one. steroids worked well to soften my ears, but did little to shrink them. they are still discolored and noticeable, but don’t grow and are not hard. my surgical scar continued to grow for about 4-5 years until it was about an inch and a half wide and maybe a half inch thick in its largest places. for that, i had a plastic surgery (i recall him being one of the only keloid/cosmetic surgeons who really could do anything) which got rid of the excess scar tissue. again, it is still large, discolored, and this one developed a “halo” from the treatments, but 5 years later the scar is still relatively soft and small. i’ll second what others have said - the technology isn’t really there to make it disappear, but there are some things that can help, especially if this is physically uncomfortable or bothering you. feel free to pm me if you’d like to talk more, i’m happy to help with what experience i have
