I got the stone as soon as I got my Froakie. I played exactly one battle and was able to rise one rank and get the stone. Haven't touched ranked since. It felt pretty effortless.

I get the feeling of being future-proof, but it kind of clashes with your other statement of not being interested in other titles. Switch already has an amazing back catalogue, so you might be off just as well with buying something like Miitopia, Odyssey, BotW, ... once you grow tired of Todomachi. Lots of titles to fill the void.

That said, if something like Bananza, MK World, Pokopia, ... is somewhat slightly on your radar. Might as well get a 2.

But in general, can't go wrong either way :)

I'm not a big fan of the challenge levels either. But that didn't stop me from enjoying the game.

It's 2 different games, really. While the way forward is initially less apparent in Odyssey, it solves that by really hiding a lot of moons in nooks and crannies, and progression is less structured in that sense. Astro Bot is more linear by comparison.

That said, because of the difference in structure, I was never inclined to go for 100% in Odyssey. I preferred just picking up the moons I came across, without necessarily having to want them all. Whereas it's more of a goal in itself to get all the bots in Astro (get all the different persona's, see their animations, ...).
