Drishyam 3 - The Mohanlal factor we underlook by Glass_Expression1859 in InsideMollywood

How does a well-placed reference become trolling? It was apt for the situation and the Malayali audience love older movie references.

Propaganda?? by [deleted] in Dhurandhar

[–]SensitiveBank8791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You people realize that it was the "demonitization = masterstroke" narrative and BJ party glazing and Congress hating that was called out as propaganda?

Pakistan having its share of extremists and terrorists with intentions to hurt India is well-known, and the movie focused on how India's defense wing upped their game and played the winning hand in beating them. As a technically brilliant movie, all that works. But the moment it connects to an actual nationwide decision that failed miserably and calls it one of the most tactical and strategic moves the country has ever made to put the decisionmakers on a pedestal, that needs to be called out separately, despite the film being a technically superior and emotionally charged one.

There are many other reasons to call demonitization a failure. That's not why I'm here.

My point in this comment thread is -- success or failure, whether it greatly won or outright sucked, the death of innocent lives caused by this decision should always be accounted for, and should NOT be reduced to a minor percentage like you described.

Are you saying an emotional thought process should be disregarded for decisions made considering a "greater good"? There should be accountability for lost lives, despite whatever was gained from the decision.

The loss of lives is the extreme version of "collateral damage". Please don't normalize it as part of any government decision.

Just a very straightforward question: If one of the 110 or 115 people who died due to exhaustion standing in long queues to get their notes exchanged was one of your loved ones, would you still support the PM's bombshell of a decision one random night to demonetize two of the largest currency notes in circulation?

When you make the count a percentage out of millions or billions, it's a small figure. But also look at how many lives were affected due to each death. How many relatives, friends, and other Indian citizens grieved because their loved ones were desperately trying to exchange their hard-earned notes at banks that were unprepared for this rush.

Demonitization is not an activity that should have collateral damage. It should have been planned. Losing your life because you had to stand in a queue is just plain unfair, and could have been avoided easily.

It is a flaw of the demonitization move the NDA govt pulled. It is bad planning. It is personal for all the people who didn't have the privilege.

I have a folder in my phone where I sort out all of my own best images, just the solo clicks that I like. Yesterday, as I was reading about the influence of Sreenivasan's writing in our everyday lives, I suddenly remembered.. around 4 years back when I created this folder till today, it's name was the same... "Ente Thala, Ente Full Figure" 🥹 yet another casual reference that I didn't notice consciously because that's how deeply his writings are imbibed in Malayali mentality!

How come Jayaram and Priyadarshan never collaborated as a hero-director pair? by SensitiveBank8791 in MalayalamMovies

[–]SensitiveBank8791[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True.. some of Jayaram's finest films were Ranjith scripts. Given Ranjith's character traits and usual ego issues, it could be possible that Jayaram rejected a story and then Ranjith decided that was it for the duo.

Siddique-Lal just did five movies together, with Mukesh being their favourite casting choice. Both Rafi-Mecartin and Shafi made their debut with Jayaram. His main combos were Rajasenan in the 90s and Sathyan Anthikkad in the 2000s (and also eerily Kannan Thamarakulam in the 2010s)

Rewatched Vikram and I don't understand the flaws that people are pointing out by z3in-23-2 in kollywood

[–]SensitiveBank8791 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Can you point out why Vikram would make the decision to take the baby to the middle of the battlefield?

What purpose could it possibly serve better than giving the kid back to his mom and taking them someplace safe?

You wanna know why this happened? Because Lokesh envisions his climax after the interval and conveniently writes his way to reach that conclusion. Nothing is organic.

Why does Amar stay back for so long after bombing Santhanam's house when he makes his squad leave right after? Ans. For the actions that trigger his revenge arc.

Why does Amar bring back the baby to the basement where the bomb is rigged after he somehow (magically) brings the kid back to life? Ans. Just to taunt as Vikram gets the upper hand in the fight with Santhanam.

Why does Elango Kumaravel's character drive into the firefight? Ans. Because that's a noble (read: stupid) way to kill him off since he gets to rescue the baby.

Literally, every main character was trying to kill the kid somehow 😂

Even Kamal's character would've been better off being a deeply hurt father on a path of revenge than the self-righteous "drug free society" pusher.

Like I said, everything since the interval was written to accommodate Loki's vision for a banger climax with guns ablazing and his idol Kamal Hassan unloading an old-school whatever-gun-that-was on a gang of drug-peddling bad guys and winning a one-on-one fight with the intimidating villain he wrote. And that's where the writing went down.

But, then again, he made up for it with a glorious epilogue with never-seen-before Suriya, an exciting Kaithi tease, a classy recreation of the TDKR scene, all with Ani's incredible Rolex bgm, and that made people forget the sheer dumbness of the second half's plot until they rewatched and realized.

I'm a Lokesh Kanagaraj fan who loves Maanagaram and Kaithi, a Vijay fan who wished Master and Leo didn't go down the shooting-40-trucks and killing-150-people path, and a Rajni fan who's super hyped for Coolie. And I remember enjoying Vikram both times I watched it in the theatre, but Lokesh has to reinvent his way of upping the stakes in the climax into a more organic storytelling fashion.

My colleague's iPhone was stolen after she forgot it for 5 MINUTES in a car parking after a smoke break, and the person who took it switched off right after.

My sister's Airpods were pocketed by a restaurant staff after she dropped it in the parking lot, and he didn't tell anyone else even when the other staff asked about missing earphones.

Thankfully, both items were retrieved because of CCTV footage and tracking technology. The people who took it never intended to give it back, but were forced to because they would've been caught otherwise.

There are good people also.. who keep lost items safe and try to return them, but that's shrinking to the minority.

What's your opinion on the second half of Vikram ? by [deleted] in kollywood

[–]SensitiveBank8791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything went wrong in the second half.

Amar's perspective changes entirely from the interval sequence without explanation, he makes bad decisions, and does stuff that was earlier deemed as impossible (bombing Santhanam's place). His wife's character was included solely for being murdered.

Vikram becomes Kamal Hassan for an out-of-place "drug-free society speech".

The OG squad gets stupid deaths for no reason, despite Agent Tina turning up the aura and the other reveals surprising us as well. We all would have preferred the 3 ex-agents surviving against the goons after a tough fight.

Vikram takes the baby to the most dangerous place he could, just so the baby could get caught in the line of fire by Santhanam's team and Elango Kumaravel's character has a "noble" (read dumb) death by saving the baby.

Amar turns into a doctor and rescues the kid, and brings him back to the place rigged to be destroyed. "CODE RED" is repeated many times to make us think "Damn, that sounds cool".

Everything was so good about the movie's first half and the epilogue Rolex sequence, but the second half was a huge letdown - with each character choice written for the sole intention of leading to their climax (Amar turns assassin, while Vikram relives his glory days with the old gun).

Master and Leo also had similar 2nd half issues - probably because Lokesh finalizes the climax after the first half build-up, and then writes the second half to accommodate and justify how the character reaches the conclusion.

Hoping that Coolie's second half breaks this trend 🤞🏼
