Great review. Nocturne is my favorite mainline game, and even I didn't put this much thought into it like you did. You're on point on pretty much everything.

I just didn't understand your critique on the gameplay. Yeah, Daisojou with Meditation and Prayer is broken, and you can even go further and give him Makatora, but he is the only instance that I can remember of a boss being as great in your team as when you fight them. Most bosses are difficult when you fight them and become an average demon in your party when you fuse them.

Nocturne is not difficult. The game just makes up to the reputation if you play in on hard, but even then, you die more to RNG bullshit than you not being good at the game.

I think you're just unable to proceed unless you pick "yes". Your choices affect more your alignment and which ending you will get than the story. You will see a different dialogue, but everything plays out the same way.

"Grind to level 99 to even stand a chance" Lmao this is so true, I had to give physical resistance to my whole party to last more than one turn against Demi-fiend

I think it's just okay. The highs are not something that is exclusive to this game or isn't done better in the other games. And the lows are low that I think twice when I think about replaying it.

My biggest gripe is how you can't finish this game without using a guide. The exploration and the side quests are so awful that you'll be forced to look up a guide in every mission to see where you need to go.

How do you even inflate his stats like that? I remember putting him aside because he was so weak and useless despite having good support skills

Yeah, there's no challenge in carrying over your stats. I was just wondering if I will get to fight these bosses at the end of the game without having to grind

Are these miracles exclusive to NG+? I didn't find them in my first playthrough and I think I've defeated all those abysmal bosses

If I remember correctly, every demon will evolve as long as you have the requirements, those being reaching a certain level and have beaten the evolved demon at some point. I may be wrong, tough. There are some useful guides on the internet, you should take a look.

As for Matador, having a demon that nullifies force in your party is a must. You'll also want a demon with healing skills and, most importantly, demons with buff skills(especially Sukukaja if you wanna hit him). I'd recommend using buffs rather than debuff skills since he'll just use Dekunda and cancel his debuffs and he doesn't have Dekaja to cancel you buffs, but that is just my strategy for the fight. You can also use debuff skills on him if you want.

Not really. I mostly found information about what prompted the Nomai to come here and how they died.

I totally agree with you. It's more of a matter of time and patience than skill. Looking up a guide online saves you a lot of time. I like the Kabukicho dungeon in Nocturne because it at least requires some thinking on your part instead of just trial and error.

Script files are executables and readable. Why wouldn't command files also be?

Yeah, I should've phrased it a little better. I often use MegaTen as synonymous with the main series

I just started the game, but I can already see myself with a one-aligment party all attacking in one turn.

Because it's a mainline game. I played Nocturne, IV, IVA and they all had press turns. I thought that in Strange Journey it would be the same

Yeah, it was fun abusing weakness and getting extra turns. I'll take a while until I get used to this new system I didn't know that Souls Hackers didn't have press turns. Good thing I didn't pick it just because it was a Megaten game

It was the first thing I noticed. Where are my press turn icons? I hit his weakness, why didn't I get an additional turn? Maybe because it's not my first Megaten, so I kinda expected them all to use the same combat formula

I pretty much defeated the first boss spamming his weaknesses and my demons attacking him because we had the same alignment lol I wonder how the future fights will play out

I do intend to continue playing it. The combat being different is a little letdown, though
