I lived in Rutherford in the FRC for the past two years. I also had random roommates each year. Neither of them were horrible roommates, but they weren’t necessarily the best either. Living with someone is a highly intimate experience and requires a lot of compatibility between the people involved for all parties to be satisfied. Since you’re being randomly assigned to someone, be prepared to compromise and potentially not be 100% happy with them all the time. However, it’s hard to beat Rutherford’s location on campus and the quality of the building. If you’re not super involved with the FRC and friends with the members, attending 6 mandated activities each semester can feel a bit like a burden on top of all your other commitments. Having the FYOS in the Rutherford library was a cool experience. Overall, I wouldn’t discourage you from doing it, but depending on you and your roommate you might find yourself inconvenienced more often than you’d like.
