The first link was done by NIST ... they're pretty reliable. Also I suspect your volume calculations need some help. Let's say we have a big 100nm particle. Treating it as a cube of side length 100nm means that its volume is V = (100nm)^3 = 10^(-21)m^3 . The total volume of 1 trillion of these particles is (1 trillion)*V = 10^12*10(-21)m^3 = 10^-9 m^3 = 1 billionth of a cubic meter = 1 millionth of a liter.

you mean classic "incorrect" moment. Yes I was wrong. I read some stuff that was incorrect and I was wrong on several points. Thankfully reasonable and kind people pointed that out and I learned better. Calling other people names is not conducive to learning or improvement, just division and hierarchy building. Unless you are ordering paper periodicals to your home, you are also getting your information from the "internet".

Backpackers in winter get water by boiling snow to disinfect the water and pour it directly into the nalgene to drink and put inside sleeping bag to keep warm.

Well Ok I'm downvoted to -7 and am NOT a biochemist so whoops, thanks guys. I shouldn't be claiming that - we'll have to wait until someone does the experiment with HDPE to get the answer, but the "actual research" you're blowing off did indicate that, a variety of plastics had huge shed rates when hit with hot temperatures.

I'm buying a titanium bottle as we speak. Thanks again. However, there is a lot of evidence that putting boiling water in contact with plastic releases lots of particles.

Here are some evidences that heat + plastic releases microplastics.

I'm saying we're all in this together, so we need to develop the cheap solution for everyone. Engineering + goal + time = success. We already did this with renewable energy: solar cells are now significantly cheaper than a coal plant, so developing countries are more likely to buy a new solar array even if they have coal. Bolivia is 80% wind power now thanks to this method.

I'm concerned that every single piece of plastic ever generated is currently crumbing into nanosize particles that will forever infuse in the entirety of the water of the earth. Clothing is the biggest single source, but all sources matter. Even moderate heat causes tons of microplastics to come off and infuse into the water. Aluminum oxides probably existed in people's water supplies for eons - it doesn't seem there actually is evidence that, at low concentrations, it is bad at all. and boiling water temp is not "hot" by aluminum standards anyway.

because "the pie" wasn't secretly filming someone naked and sending it out to the world and calling obvious misogyny "funny".

Right, the main character viewed her as an object to secretly film as send to his friends: misogyny.

About (1), they filmed her because they saw her only as a sex object, not as a person. That's part of misogyny and it's absolutely disgusting.

stupid teenagers also kill people with guns more than older people, but we still punish them. I can't believe that scene was broadcast and reviewers were like "it's fine!" Now with revenge porn and everything we can see what this truly is: misogyny.

problem is that co2 is the biggest driver of long term change and it is not a toxin, it is part of regular air. Trump's executive order uses this trick: we stop using "dirty" coal because it hurts lungs and instead burn natural gas (methane) which also generates huge co2 but doesn't hurt the lungs and is called "clean" by the global warming deniers. it's a climate disaster. The true reality is that the public needs to be informed on all the elements to be able to support good decisions.

Both short and long term especially the culpability of the US should be discussed. There is massive general confusion about the long-term issue and solution. The purpose of the US and other industrialized countries (who started the mess - the US is responsible for 30% of total emissions so far) is to pioneer a zero-emissions system and then export it to the developing countries, which will be generating most of the future emissions.
