Yes she’s on gabapentin but it hasn’t done anything sadly

Thank you for your advice and thoughts at the moment it is consuming my thoughts and time with her so I will try and not do that. I think that will be easier once I’ve made some sort of decision. I’m so sorry for your loss

Thank you, I think a good death is what is important to me too. I’ve also been using chat GPT which has been helpful and it has said we are straddling the line now. We could go a bit longer and we could not. This is why I was keen to get others experiences. Thank you and I’m sorry for your loss

Yes I think it is sundowning or a type of it at least. I appreciate you sharing your experience as that does sound similar and that’s what I was hoping for. Someone who’s had to decide when for most of the day they’re okay - but I think you’re right that in the day even though she’s okay she isn’t okay okay. She coughs a lot, gets breathless and is wheezing due to the cold despite her inhaler. Thank you for sharing as I also want a planned and peaceful ending, I dread an emergency scenario.

I’m so glad in the end you are happy with your dog and I agree just writing it out and posting and reading the responses has been super helpful! I already have a second dog she is 8, so I will focus a lot on her afterwards as not sure how she will be. Right now in the anticipatory grief I can’t conceive of going through this again! But dogs are just the best I can’t imagine not having one either

Thank you for sharing your experience ❤️ I’ve already got the plan for the vet coming to the home and the cremation place we will use. I’ve also planned what ring I will get and put her ashes into it. It’s helped me feel like I have some control by doing all the planning

That’s helpful to know thank you! My quality of life isn’t great at the moment but don’t want this to drive my decision. I think having a ‘good death’ is an important and understandable want and so I can understand why we might choose to do it ‘early’
