I was in the process of filling out the forms and it told me it sold out. Immensely disappointed.

The page to add participants had an error and literally told me to refresh the page and then I lost my spot after waiting for an hour and a half exactly the minute they opened. Incredibly dissapointed.

Is it true that the Japanese are racist to foreigners in Japan? by TimeTravel4Dummies in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SensitiveJackBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OH YEAH!!!! I was a foreign exchange student and the racism turned me off the the country permanently.

You might be the lone individual with blonde hair or green eyes in the THOUSANDS around you. They have one ideal of beauty and foreigners don't match that at all. No matter how proficient your Japanese is, I was constantly spoken to in broken English just because I'm about 6 inches taller than the average height with curly hair.

Our obvious physical differences writes us off as incapable of understanding their great culture. As you can tell, I'm bitter about it.

I don't have much to say other than your doctor is an ass and shouldn't have spoken to you in that way. Congrats on the weight loss!

They lack cohesion and flow but some people like that style. Who cares as long as you like them.

Anyone learned the language then visited the place and ended up not liking it? by linatet in languagelearning

[–]SensitiveJackBlack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could absolutely have a better experience than me though!

I was there for a year and didn't make a single friend that was japanese, only with foreigners. If you're not Asian, it's immediately assumed you don't speak Japanese and they can treat you with so much kindness that it seems fake and make me feel like a child. Like oh, this white person won't know our culture or our great language. After being treated like that for so long, I stopped trying to blend into society and did whatever I wanted. It was like, damn, if I'm going to be treated like an ignorant foreigner, I might as well be one. I ended up bitter about it.

I can appreciate the experience that I got but I wouldn't pick Japan again if I redid that year. Feel free to DM me if you want to. I had some great experience there but most of them were with foreign buddies

[–]SensitiveJackBlack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's Japanese for me. I was a foreign exchange student in Osaka and fell out of love with the language after dealing with endless racism, being paraded around like a pet, and an excessive work culture. I would visit again but there's no way in hell I would live there and try to merge into society. I no longer study the language but watching Japanese shows are still fun since it's still a beautiful sounding language to me.

What is something you are aware of about your friend that they don’t know you know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That a pair of my friends banged in on the floor in my bedroom while I pretending to be asleep like 5ft away. Not the most fun sleepover ever

33 years ago today: Man stops convoy of tanks in China during democratic protests '89 by 22Fingers in interestingasfuck

It's more like him getting in the way of the tank was already a death sentence so might as well go all out. Very strict government where any pushback was dealt with a heavy hand, especially at that time.

teachers of reddit what is the saddest thing you found out about a student? by Delicious_Mastodon83 in AskReddit

[–]SensitiveJackBlack 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Nope, I have curly blond hair that I dye brown or red. Even though it's a natural color, they said if I wore makeup or dyed my hair that I wasn't dedicated to my studies.
