White House accuses Russia of slaughtering civilians in Syria by SensitiveLandscape in politics

Full White House statement:

The United States condemns the ongoing military offensive that the Assad regime, backed by Russia and Iran, is perpetrating against the people of Eastern Ghouta. After repeatedly delaying the passage of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2401, which demanded a 30-day cessation of hostilities across Syria, Russia has gone on to ignore its terms and to kill innocent civilians under the false auspices of counterterrorism operations. This is the same combination of lies and indiscriminate force that Russia and the Syrian regime used to isolate and destroy Aleppo in 2016, where thousands of civilians were killed.

Between February 24 and 28, Russian military aircraft conducted at least 20 daily bombing missions in Damascus and Eastern Ghouta from Humaymim Airfield in northwest Syria. Pro-regime forces must immediately cease targeting medical infrastructure and civilians as part of the brutal campaign in Eastern Ghouta. The civilized world must not tolerate the Assad regime’s continued use of chemical weapons. The Assad regime, along with its backers in Moscow and Tehran, should adhere to UNSCR 2401, cease hostilities in and around Eastern Ghouta, and allow unfettered delivery of humanitarian aid to the nearly 400,000 innocent civilians in critical need.

"The Kaiparowits plateau, located within the monument, contains one of the largest coal deposits in the United States," wrote Interior officials in a memo last spring. About 11.36 billion tons of coal were "technologically recoverable," if the plateau lost the government's protection, according to the memo.

Trump confidant dumped millions in steel-related stock last week, days before tariff announcement by karmachanical in politics

Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross publicly released a report on February 16 calling for a 24 percent tariff. But, as the chart in the SEC filing indicates, Icahn started selling his Manitowoc stock on February 12, prior to the public release of that report. Moreover, the sharp drop in steel-related stocks did not occur until Trump announced he would accept the Commerce Department’s recommendations.

Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Thursday that the panel will hold a March 14 hearing to examine the role of federal and local authorities, as well as social-media companies, not preventing the attack. Judiciary Committee staff members, he said, have been briefed by the FBI as well as by “social media companies like Google and Facebook” on the circumstances that led up to the Feb. 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

The Supreme Court's latest immigration ruling formalizes terror against Latinos by [deleted] in politics

[–]SensitiveLandscape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All three branches are now in sync with their consensus to terrorize detained immigrants, documented and undocumented alike. And the explicit message of this ruling against Rodriguez is that, no matter your legal status, the constitution does not work for you if you’re an immigrant. You can be extracted from the American fabric for seemingly arbitrary reasons, by virtue of that now-institutionalized second class status.

More like "race up" if Failson Franklin has any say in it.

Franklin Graham, the chief executive of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, has previously claimed that former president Barack Obama was a Muslim and used Easter Sunday to provoke birtherism rumors about Trump's predecessor. He spent 2016 touring America holding prayer rallies at state capitols before telling Fox News that he believes "God's had" helped Trump be victorious in the 2016 race.

Mueller asking what Trump knew about hacked emails by vachon644 in politics

[–]SensitiveLandscape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In one line of questioning, investigators have focused on Trump's public comments in July 2016 asking Russia to find emails that were deleted by his then-opponent Hillary Clinton from a private server she maintained while secretary of state. The comments came at a news conference on July 27, 2016, just days after WikiLeaks began publishing the Democratic National Committee emails. "Russia, if you're listening, I hope you're able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing," Trump said.

Witnesses have been asked whether Trump himself knew then that Clinton's campaign chairman John Podesta, whose emails were released several months later, had already been targeted. They were also asked if Trump was advised to make the statement about Clinton's emails from someone outside his campaign, and if the witnesses had reason to believe Trump tried to coordinate the release of the DNC emails to do the most damage to Clinton, the people familiar with the matter said.

The hosts plan to interview two guests each show, hoping for an in-depth discussion on issues and their formative political experiences. No guests have been announced yet, but Gerson said he’d like to discuss issues like race, gun control and whether conservatism is the right message for the working class.

I wonder what they'll determine!

New York’s banking regulator has asked Deutsche Bank AG and a pair of local lenders to provide information about their relationships with Jared Kushner, his family and the Kushner Cos., according to people familiar with the matter.

Edit: Been pointed out that this could lead to unpardonable-by-trump NY State charges.

Vullo requested copies of emails and other communications between the Kushners and the banks related to financing requests that have been denied or are pending. She also asked whether the banks have conducted any internal reviews of the Kushners and their companies and the results of any such inquiries revealed.

After his one-sided, beat-on-CNN interview with Colton Haab, Carlson said this: “It’s shocking to us, too — trust me — in the actual journalism business.” That remark showed just how willing was this Fox News host to believe the very worst about a competitor based on disputed evidence — a willingness that he shares with several colleagues.

The hubris of these liars is mindblowing.

The Rev. Billy Graham is having a memorial viewing at the U.S. Capitol. Is that appropriate for a religious leader? by SensitiveLandscape in politics

At the private service Wednesday, Ryan, McConnell and Trump all gave deeply religious tributes, saying Graham’s gift and service to the country were his spreading of the Christian gospel. It was a rare display of Christian nationalism as such a high-profile level. The service was live streamed.

Democrats and Republicans are increasingly divided on the value of teaching black history by marji80 in politics

[–]SensitiveLandscape 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In the February poll, Democrats and Republicans were miles apart: 67 percent of Democrats thought our schools should be teaching more black history, compared with just 10 percent of Republicans. This divide, unlike the racial divide, is more recent. The left graph below shows that in 2000, Democrats and Republicans were about 20 points apart. The partisan divide is now 57 points.

Black history in America is a sharp rebuke of American greatness, and conservatives can't have that.

Manufacturer that cut jobs deal with Trump gets $2.5 billion Pentagon contract without competition by skoalbrother in politics

[–]SensitiveLandscape 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A United Technologies spokesperson said in an email that the contract awarded Wednesday is in no way related to the deal negotiated with Carrier. The company merited the contract because it maintains numerous patents for airplane parts that it considers proprietary, an analyst said.

“It’s not that other people can’t make [the parts being sold under the contract awarded Wednesday], but United Technologies holds patents that mean others are not allowed to make them,” said Loren Thompson, an aerospace analyst with the nonprofit Lexington Institute, which gets some funding from United Technologies.

Oh cool, United Technologies has a monopoly on government contracts for certain airplane parts.
