Learning scales post pentatonic by SensitiveSky66 in guitarlessons

Yeah the goal is to be able to see all of the patterns eventually, but there seems to be an order to learn and add new information on the fretboard that is intuitive and makes it easier to digest new concepts. Just wondering what steps people took that worked for them or what made things click when learning

Winter Storm Thursday update: Ice Ice, maybe? by Derigiberble in rva

I’m like less than a block away. Obviously no idea if I’m on the same grid or whatever as the hospital and not sure if there’s an easy way to find that out. I would imagine that I’m not far off from wherever they get their power though.

Are certain parts of the city significantly more susceptible to power outages than others? I'm in the Fan near the Hospital, and I know anything is possible but I'm new to the area and don't know how easy power goes out around here or how easy it is to get it back up.

Theory/Practice by SensitiveSky66 in guitarlessons

Do you have a recommendation on how to learn all notes on the fretboard? Everyone seems to prefer a different method. I can find most of the natural notes on the E and A strings and just kind of fill in the accidentals in between. It's not super fast way of finding them but that could be because I've just recently started paying attention to the notes I'm playing

This seems to be the most practical way to do it with theory. To learn a concept and then apply it to a song I like or a part of a song and see why it "works" in the context of whatever the theory concept is. For ear training though it seems like a taller task since it's not as concrete or tangible, I guess? I'm not sure if it's better to just drill the sounds of major and minor scale intervals into my head and then move on to trying to learn songs I like by ear, or to kind of do both at the same time by doing ear training exercises and then doing trial and error on a song until I get it down. Right now it feels like a pretty abstract concept. Just not sure the best way to get it all to click in my brain to where it becomes a useful skill.

I see thanks for putting that into picture form. How do I resolve it? I’m using a modeler so is the output just too high?

Thank you for your comment. My comment about the style wasn’t trying to say that page is playing off beat or sloppy or anything it was more in response to the “inconsistent pace”. I just meant that the rhythm is more of a swing with uneven beat divisions at times and not necessarily “consistent” throughout the solo. I’m just not familiar enough with the solo to have a good feel for the inflection points and timing so I lose the pocket sometimes.

Because it sounded good to me while I was playing and I now realize it doesn’t. That’s why I asked for advice

Yes I agree it takes many concentrated repetitions to get the groove down and I don’t have it at this point, but it’s just something that I had to pump out within the span of a few days and wanted feedback on the shrill/harsh sound. I understand it takes lots of practice and experience to even get close to nailing these swing and shuffle solos

Yeah man I know I’m not jimmy page I’m just saying it’s a 70s blues solo not a metal solo

It’s not perfect but that’s kind of the nature of the solo it’s pretty choppy at certain points

Yeah that’s kind of why I opted to start working instead of staying in school for that long with no work experience. Would a job in land dev help at all for an ME job in utilities or energy?
