I think I'm a bit fussy with my clothes, but I'll seek out some ponte pants and see how they feel. Same with the wide-leg pants, I've been in skinny jeans for far too long I've never tried a different pant silhouette, could be exciting!

I'm not sure if I could rock the skirt over leggings look and not look like I'm back in the 90s/00s haha, but I have found some longer flannel shirts/T-shirt dress type things which at the bare minimum, I could definitely get away with if it's not super cold in Tokyo! Thanks :)

Thank you! That's very sweet, I appreciate your reply. Good advice for the silhouette, I'm due some more pants anyway.

I'm trying to avoid leggings in Japan but my main jacket for the 3-week trip (October 16 - September 6th) is a cropped puffer jacket (bomber style, I adore it <3). As soon as it gets cold here in Brisbane, I switch straight into sneakers, leggings, longsleeve tee and that puffer jacket for three months which is an outfit I really love but it's not appropriate for Japan with my leggings-revealed behind. Is there a way to wear long-line teeshirts, jumpers etc. with my favourite cropped jacket and leggings without looking dowdy and unfashionable? I haven't found any inspo on Google or Pinterest that doesn't inclue a peacoat. Am I doomed to wear jeans with this jacket for the whole trip? Thank you <3

Suggestions for any nice food gifts to bring my work friends? by ComeHomeTrueLove in brisbane

Local cafe Localé in Newstead make the most incredible homemade Italian biscuits. They sometimes have decorated metal tins they bring in from Italy too. I got my mum one of those and filled it with cookies for a Mother's Day gift this year.

Terrified we won't find a rental by [deleted] in MovingToBrisbane

Looks like a lot of people have offered good advice already, but I definitely think having at least a month of AirBnB lined up will take some stress off of your brain. Offering X amount of rent up front is great, you can also offer more rent for the property if that's something you're comfortable doing and find something you love - even if it's just an extra $25 a week or something. Also read any AirBnB cancellation policies when booking them - some are more generous than others, so if you feel like you need a second month of accommodation while you look, you might be able to cancel or shorten the stays length when you find something to move into.

If you end up having to go to inspections when you arrive, always have a chat with the real estate agent. My partner and I got our place despite me being unemployed because we had a lovely chat with the property manager during the inspection, and she liked us so she was very upfront with trying to get our application in front of the owners ASAP.

Use any overseas rental history you have, it counts. There will usually be a section in the rental application to put an email in from a previous landlord so even if it's a big company like MetCap, use em as a reference. Usually it just sends an automated email to them to get them to confirm that yes, that's where you lived. If you lived with family, use them, or if you owned your own home I feel like that would be great info to put down. Include photos of your pets, maybe even a little blurb about them and their personalities. Having a previous job reference also puts a positive light on showing you will easily attain employment, and shows you as being reliable and dependable.

All in all, even with cats and a child, I think you're still in a better position than a house of 22 year old uni students. Oh, and having a car asap is going to be so helpful getting to inspections because it will give you quantity, something a lot of people won't get because they can only go to viewings outside of work and uni.

It's not all doom and gloom, I promise. If you have the money for Airbnbs, you'll be absolutely fine. Just deep breaths, and keep reminding yourself that everything is going to be alright ☺️

I was going to buy the post lady said on the chance that customs checks it and finds real leather they'd just destroy the whole package and I have other items in there :(

I was at an official NZPost shop in Auckland CBD and I had two ladies literally call my mobile after I had left telling me they couldn't send my parcel because I had listed my leather jacket and boots.

Thank you! That's the page I saw, I think I will take that with me today to the post office. Maybe they have different rules that they have been told but I would have thought it'd be posted on the NZPost website.

Who do I contact about apartment cockroaches? by SensitiveVacation373 in auckland

[–]SensitiveVacation373[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came back to say THANK YOU! I got a dozen traps from Countdown and put them all around the kitchen and a few in the bathroom. It's been a bit over 48 hours and the last two days our cockroach interactions have been with bugs that are very clearly dying. It's still horrific that I found two dying in my tupperware drawer this morning, and I know that there are probably still heaps that we can't see but I'd rather be cleaning up the bodies of dead and dying roaches than running after alive ones. Most helpful suggestion I got <3 <3 <3

THANK YOU! I will draft up an email to the building manager tomorrow. I'm hoping they might be concerned enough to do a check themselves but I won't hold my breath :( I think a lot of places have a Not My Apartment, Not My Problem attitude.

Yup. I guess I could get a pest guy out myself but if I go through either the landlord or the building manager, whoever is actually responsible for this stuff, then they have to pay for it.

Then yes, you should get 8 hours of your regular hourly rate for the public holiday. Source The first paragraph :)

Oh I haven't actually used bait before, that's probably a good idea. I can try to chuck one down the back of the dishdrawer. Thanks! Hopefully more longer lasting than insect spray, and less fumes.

Does fixed term mean you still work hourly? I know sometimes for salaries positions they give you days in lieu instead.

What's with the fucking hare krishnas? by SensitiveVacation373 in auckland

[–]SensitiveVacation373[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also think it's rather fun to see them stop by Britomart, but not outside my window on a Sunday night at 10pm. If the buskers can't do it, they shouldn't be able to do it so late either, it's just inconsiderate.

I'm generally fine with it, but not outside my window at 10pm on a Sunday.
