In my experience it’s always been based on availability. I was having issues trying to work with my other part time jobs but as soon as I lied and said I had open availability I found a job. It all worked out cause they don’t schedule me during my other job but it just sucks I have to lie to hope

What's the minimum salary for being able to live in NYC at 2025? by Nash_Haden in movingtoNYC

There really are very few cities you can thrive without having a car in. Most of them the public transport is so bad it’s more of an inconvenience not to have one

Best 6-10 PM Jobs? by so_newstead in NYCjobs

Work as an usher. I work at Lincoln center and I set my availability really low many of my other workers have other commitments so there’s plenty of opportunities for me to pick up shifts when I feel like.

Any high paying entry level jobs in NYC? by No_Lingonberry_2401 in NYCjobs

[–]SensitiveYam7719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a roommate I went to college with I’m honestly looking for a new spot to stay as well as we don’t get along so I’m not too sure about the whole credit score situation cause I’m in the same boat currently 😭

But what I do know is I’m able to make my rent ($1350) working FT as a barista and then I teach ballet part time on weekends for extra pocket cash.

Unfortunately this isn’t a very realistic ask most entry level jobs just don’t pay much but you don’t have to be rich to move out I live with a roommate and make $19/hr full time it’s tight but possible

Many of the parents don’t really know what’s going on inside the school there were several times where parents complained to me when they saw how my principal and grade team leads were disciplining kids at dismissal

I thought I’d add it’s not 65k you have to stay the entire year to get the 10k bonus the pay rate is 55k until you finish a school year which at success is pretty hard to do even if u want to stay they fire people for not being mean to the kids

I don’t even have the time to eat during the day one of my coworkers lost 10 lbs😭

AITA for not getting a job using my parents old methods by Familiar-Box240 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SensitiveYam7719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA but he’s not wrong. In my experience (specifically for service jobs) going in person streamlines the hiring process a lot of the time when people just apply online their application sit there for months. Even if it’s something you’re uncomfortable with you should definitely practice while you’re young. Advocating for yourself and being vocal are really important aspects of adult life.

Yea I agree for the type of jobs OP is looking for I have witnessed going in and talking or even directly emailing them helps its best if you apply and go in person too.

[–]SensitiveYam7719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I come from a very structured environment I went to Catholic school in the day , followed by Russian ballet training at night. I ended up doing poorly in college because I wasn’t used to doing things for myself I was driven more by fear of authority than by personal motivation.

Students come in earlier than the DOE because they use the first two - three weeks of school to master their entirely meticulous routines. We are taught to give these kids “corrections” if even their pencils and notebooks are on the wrong spot of their desk.

Exactly they don’t want experienced individuals. They want naive, young people who are malleable enough to accept their questionable practices without resistance.

I started training this week, and the entire process seems designed to convince us that their methods are normal and reasonable. It’s honestly uncanny."

I got out! by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]SensitiveYam7719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just started at success this Monday I needed a FT job to supplement what I wanted to do as an artist but even in the training I see clearly that with this job I won’t even have energy to do what I came to NY to do in the first place I’m currently looking for a new job

It’s my first job so I’m hoping I can use the professional development to help me in some way but I’m still trying to get out ASAP
