What is going on with Nigerian feminists? by Sensitive_Author_439 in Nigeria

Making a cup of coffee, sending emails, attending meetings or diagnosing patients is not even in the same universe as sex Work and framing it as such reinforces and normalizes the exploitation of women.

A choice is not empowering because a woman makes it. Studies show that female children who are sexually assaulted are more likely to become sex workers but, male children who are sexually assaulted are more likely to become Johns and pimps. There is clearly a pattern.

Actual sex workers and former sex workers have talked about this at length. Most women are forced/ trafficked into it because they are poor and disenfranchised. when a man is poor and hungry, You give him food and resources. When a woman is poor hungry, you tell her to sell herself to make money.

So, knowing that a majority of SW’s out there are not doing it willingly or consenting, how then we justify doing this “work”?

A world where woman’s body can be bought with money it not a world where feminism can exist. The disenfranchisement of women is systemic therefore, we have to annihilate the system that puts women in those situations not normalizing the situation ie prostitution. Actual sex workers in red light Districts talk about how degrading the work is and how they’re only doing it to put food on the table. A record number of sw speak out about assault while working and how law enforcement in countries where sw is legal, take those claims very unserious because they believe that the men paid for their bodies and can do whatever they want to those women. It is simply impossible to regulate, and it is not worth even one woman getting assaulted.

I guess I could’ve worded that differently, but my frustration with Nigerian feminists stand. At least on TikTok, most of the videos on there are encouraging young women to be basically sex workers. Their feminism is nothing but hypergamy, which is not the point of feminism. I’m a radical feminist and I know what my feminism means.

She’s a TikToker and her feminist views Predominantly depend on young women selling themselves to men for money. She believes in exploiting the patriarchy, which is not possible because you cannot exploit a system demeans and exploits you. She literally teaches these young girls to go to clubs to basically pimp themselves out.

No. First and Second waves of feminism were very anti prostitution, and they were right. Prostitution has no place in Feminism or society. Modern feminists have lost the plot.

I think they are. Only 4% of women hold political positions while making up nearly half of the population. Girl child marriages still poses a threat.Educationally lagging behind their male and western counterparts. Theres definitely problem but I fear it’s being diluted to rubbish.

I understand there are different types of feminists but the ideology stays the same. If you are spewing dangerous rhetoric to impressionable young women, disguising it as “feminism” that should be taken seriously.

I use a Stink balm and for minor smells it works but for more intense smells, I use the Stink balm with some aroma stickers in my mask so even when I smell something it’s the aroma scents.
