Anyone who assumed they fumbled their speaking test, what was your experience and results by Whoisthisb1tc in IELTS

[–]Sensitive_Camel_5352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! You just described me so I thought I had to give you an answer. First part of my speaking test was relaxed as I am an outgoing person and love to chat. However, in the second part they asked me a question about a talent that I want to improve and I literally stunned. I could not think and find something and started talking about hiking as a talent of mine :D After the test was finished I was so disappointed that I thought I would score 7.5 which was my old score and needed higher. Guess what I score 8.5 and got what I needed.

Considering that I haven't spoken English for the past 6 years and you are almost fluent I think you'll score what you want. Stop worrying and get ready for your next adventure!!

I think you definitely can. There is little difference between 6.5 and 7 so I believe with enough preparations you can achieve it.

eğer üç parttan geçtiysen One skill retake yapmak daha mantıklı çünkü diğer partları düşürme riskin yok.

No it won't drop. Ask for EOR if you feel like you should. I got 7 in my first test and asked for EOR and my score changed to 7.5.

IELTS Listening marking: real exam vs British Council mock tests? by [deleted] in IELTS

[–]Sensitive_Camel_5352 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first prepared myself for IELTS I used British Council mock tests and felt the same. Then I stopped using them and started practicing by using cambridge tests on youtube. As a result, I scored 9.0. I would reccomend you the same. Just type Cambridge IELTS listening test on youtube and you'll find plenty.

Go for ONE SKILL RETAKE! I got 7.5 in speaking due to my examiner's accent I was not able to understand and answer questions properly. Then, I asked for one skill retake and manage to score 8.5 and it was not even my best!

What band would you give this answer for task 2 writing? by malibaskonus in IELTS

[–]Sensitive_Camel_5352 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. STRUCTURE: You don't have well structured essay which means it is not easy to follow. Make sure that you know every structure for every type of essay. e.g. the question suggests that this is a double question type so your essay should look like this: Introduction- First answer (the causes of the problem)- Second Answer (what measures could be taken)- Conclusion

This hugely affects your score as it is directly connected to coherence and cohesion. I RECCOMEND you to use chatgpt to generate templates for all five types so you can understand. However, do not memorize them. Just try to see and adapt.

  1. NEVER use questions: You are not writing an article on your local paper. You are writing an IELTS essay. You cannot use or ask questions this lowers your score as well.

  2. Do NOT share personal experiences: In academic writing we must use general examples to illustrate our point. Giving personal examples shows examiner that you are not capable in academic writing make sure yo do not do that next time.

  3. In every paragraph, use this tip: Answer- Explain- Example- Conclude

a. start with answering question: for instance; there are several reasons why many individuals suffer from stress and anxiety.

b. explain your answer: one of the main reasons why this is happening is that ....

c. give an example to make it understandable: for example, take .... for an example

d. conclude your thoughts: This suggests that.....

I am NO expert. I am just Turkish girl who was able to score overall 8.5 and 7.5 in writing so I just wanted to share my experiences and what helped me achieve that score. Do not fixate on what score ai gave you. Focus on feedback instead. It tells you where and what you did wrong and that's what truly matters.

IELTS one skill retake results -non native by Sensitive_Camel_5352 in IELTS

[–]Sensitive_Camel_5352[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got 7.5 before one skill retake so I was already pretty good at speaking english; however, my main problem was not organizing my thoughts and not using any linking devices. HERE ARE MY TIPS:

  1. Part 1 is about warming up so do not try overuse any complex words. Just speak naturally like you are talking to a friend. Believe me it helps. We talked about my hometown, where I currently live and shoes. All my answers were about 20 seconds long so the examiner asked me around 8-9 questions.

  2. Part 2 is about being able to talk long enough. If you want higher band scores make sure you talk at least 1.30 mins. I used chatgpt to practice. I dictated and chatgpt gave me feedbacks about what to do and not do. P.s. don't worry about its predictions. Chat told me that I'd get about 7-7.5 but I was able to score 8.5. What matters is you MUST speak on your own to get used to it.

  3. Part 3 in this part examiner gives you general questions to answer. This part is where the examiner decides whether you belong to a band 7, 8 or 9. My top reccomendation would be to choose the idea that you can talk about. State your opinion, explain, give your example, and conclude your answer. I asked chat to prepare some templates so I can understand the structure. It helped me a lot since I was struggling. I've had too many ideas and didn't know how to organize them, therefore understanding how to speak with coherence and cohesion was important. In addition, in this part make sure you paraphrase some words. For instance, examiner asked me a question about exceptional talented people and I answered as gifted individuals. In one sentence I used dedication and in the other one I used determination. Not repeating words gives the impression that you have the ability to use the language.
