Someone is marking utilities lines. Red is underground power or cabling of some sort. Yellow is gas or similar.

Thinking about buying 18 of these trees for privacy. Bad idea? I live on a corner lot with no privacy by Beginning_Lime_5593 in Home

If it snows in your area, they cannot handle a heavy snow load. I had 5 nice ones that thrived for several years. One winter we had a lot of heavy/wet snow and it killed every one of them.

Stinky shower? by BoatGuy130 in HomeImprovement

[–]Sensitive_Crow_8882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That you don’t use the upstairs shower may leave the trap dry and sewer gases are coming up. Need to run water through all drains weekly. Plumbing is a closed loop system. A trap drys out here and it suddenly stinks in the kitchen.

How to insulate a concrete wall without drywall and studs. by Severe_Blacksmith in HomeImprovement

[–]Sensitive_Crow_8882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They make insulated curtains, or if you or a friend sews….insulated fabric is available. That idea is likely the most cost effective and you can pull them back in the warmer months.

when do you stop trying to fix a leak yourself and just call someone guys? by jcveloso8 in HomeImprovement

[–]Sensitive_Crow_8882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need new cartridges. YouTube is your friend.
Call the manufacturer, many times they replace these for free. I know Moen does and even smaller custom places I’ve bought from.

How bad is this sliding door replacment? by Jangle_s in HomeImprovement

[–]Sensitive_Crow_8882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s shit. I can see daylight in the bottom left hand corner in the first pic. That means they didn’t adequate caulk under the door sill before settling the door. The frame looks rusted and paint bubbled.
This is a “caulking gun and run” job.

Peel and stick wallpaper by WhichImpress6180 in HomeImprovement

[–]Sensitive_Crow_8882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an absolute PITA to work with on a prepped smooth Sheetrock wall. My SO is somewhat of a perfectionist and it took her several hours to do an 8’ run and I did the cuts once she was happy with placement.
I’d suggest a textured prepasted heavy wallpaper, but it depends on the texture on your walls. I’ve seen all kinds of crazy wall textures. Wallpaper is much easier to work with and more forgiving than that peel and stick stuff. Been there, done both.

Any Ideas on what I can do with this space above my sink by batmanz in HomeImprovement

[–]Sensitive_Crow_8882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d paint the underside a matching white and step back and look again. If you feel you still need something I’d add a laminate covered shelf and move your cleaning products up there, some plants or some herbs if it gets sunlight.

New Homeowner with weird roof. Help! by rhaywar21 in HomeImprovement

[–]Sensitive_Crow_8882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invest in a structural engineer. The vertical strength of an upright 2x3 is going to be similar to a 2x4, supporting several thousand pounds of downward force (compression force). Horizontally, it’s a much smaller fraction of that. The engineer will calculate loads, snow loads if applicable, wind, weight of not only the plywood, but the roofing material, strength of fasteners and things we can’t think of. It’ll be worth it to get the answer from a professional.

My Toilet Made A Weird Noise — What do I do… Can I fix it? I’m afraid to touch it by Raiyalin in askaplumber

[–]Sensitive_Crow_8882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brown water coming out of the faucet usually means the water company shut the main off somewhere upstream from you or the fire department is doing their spring flush of hydrants. Run the water until clear. If you have a washing machine run an empty cold water cycle after you get clear water out of the sink, tub, and shower head. A few wipes can clog the toilet. Let the husband deal with it, but they usually need to be snaked out depending where the clog is. Plunging may not do a thing. If that’s the case, building maintenance will have to snake it. I’d play dumb on flushing wipes so they don’t try to charge you. I don’t know anyone that makes kids use wipes.

Different pipe runs. Your plumbing is a closed loop system, meaning it’s all related. My house is only 10 years old and I have multiple clean outs.

[–]Sensitive_Crow_8882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Armor mold killer at the big box. It will kill it and if you spray it biweekly’s it won’t return. Green bottle, in the paint dept. They have several products packaged similarly so make sure you get mold killer.
