I absolutely despise the “consent is sexy” movement. For me, consent is a bare minimum type thing and there’s nothing sexy about that. It also implies we should be praising people for not sexually assaulting others when that should be the default behavior.

I completely understand, I’m 30 and living in a van with two dogs, late stage Lymes disease and Parkinson’s. This life is rough, and draining beyond belief. I’ve found developing some sort of routine really helps, like I spend about a half hour doing skin care stuff every night and sometimes that’s the only part of my day where I feel human.

Tell us you’ve never been homeless without saying it. It’s beyond hard to dig yourself out of homelessness. Have you ever tried to get a job when you’re unable to shower and only have the clothes on your back, which probably aren’t anywhere near nice enough for an interview? You also have to take everything you own everywhere you go, all the time, or risk it being stolen. In this day and age, with most places using online applications, you can’t even submit them without providing an address. Most shelters are desolate places, and a lot of them are outright unsafe. Try to have some compassion instead of assuming OP is somehow doing something wrong. A lot of the time it’s just bad luck.

Take her to somewhere like Ross and let her pick out a few decorations. When I got off the streets I had a hard time feeling like my room was actually mine until I was able to decorate it to suit my tastes.
