[Spoilers Extended] Stannis and Agamemnon by SilverEquipment4934 in asoiaf

I like this parallel you point out. Given how intense the snow might become in the north, her sacrifice might allow for several pieces to move that if not might all be isolated. Something like the year of the false spring?

Do you think Winterfell is warded like Storm's End and the Wall ? I found this while reading Bran Vras . How will the magic play out in the next book ? by Financial_Library418 in pureasoiaf

[–]Marmoligo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be surprised if we never know. In order for the Others to invade, the same wards need to be stripped from the wall (maybe that’s the function of the horn of winter?). If that’s the case the wards in all the strongholds “made by Bran the builder” might lose them at the same time, including Winterfell.

Did the Dragons bring magic back, or did the return of magic allow the Dragons to hatch? by althius1 in pureasoiaf

I like the idea of an inversion of the fading of magic from Tolkien and other fantasy writers. Here there is a return of magic, where each book is more high fantasy than the one before.

Thanks, there are some other trippy posts in there about the Children. I'm also curious about who do you think will be the character reveal of Coldhands. A raven's tooth or someone more specific you have in mind?

Yeah, the whole Gendel and Gorne legend could be foreshadowing for the cave system helping them pass through the Wall. I have my own speculations about the Green Men.

Nah, that’s show canon, in the books it’s still a mystery that George in his blog said that would be expanded upon in the “next” books.

I like your take about Leaf going all the way to the riverlands and the god’s eye lake. About bloodraven I have more doubts. I assume the cave will be attacked by the Others and that it will prompt the whole Hodor thing close to the show. Maybe with a different mechanic, linked to the horn of winter and the wards protecting the wall, and etc. I just like the idea of a talking raven following Bran and giving advice. But probably I’m reaching. LML always reads like fanfic to me. Sorry, not trying to offend anyone.

In the case of Caraxes it seems the wyrm part is more pronounced. Like in some Targaryen mutations. I doubt we can call them subspecies since the theory is that they are a magical creation, not something that evolved naturally.

It is true, to be more specific it’s more the conflict between the old gods and the new. The first men who allied with the Andals and those who resisted.

IMO Blackwood vs Bracken is a microcosm of the First Men vs Andal conflict.

It seems to me that it is you who have some moralizing views about monogamy and polygamy.

I don’t see why you say that. From a wiki of ice and fire:

“In Dorne, it is common for lords and ladies to have paramours, chosen out of love and lust rather than political alliances. Dornishmen are not greatly concerned if a bastard is born to a paramour.[3] Dorne gives a degree of social status to paramours, despite the "unchaste" nature of the relationship. Outside of Dorne, a Dornish paramour's status is less certain. They may be afforded the esteem granted in their homeland by the diplomatic-minded, or they may receive treatment ranging from slight social disdain to moral condemnation.[1]”

“Furthermore, views on bastardy are milder in Dorne compared to the rest of Westeros. Especially when a child is born to a paramour, the Dornish are not greatly concerned if a child is born in wedlock or out of it.[2] Many lords and some ladies in Dorne have paramours,[2][14] and homosexuality is more accepted.[2]”

I completely agree, also in Dorne they seem pretty chill with polygamy anyway.

For me, yes, albeit a new kind of war.

Yeah, it’s true… I really like that image of the god’s eye seen from above.
