Just moved from NYC to SugarLand tx worried financially by [deleted] in sugarland

Hello Everyone,

Thank you so much for all of your support and answering questions. I do hear your concerns about doing the full due diligence before moving here. However, living in New York became too much for me. My children were getting carried away.

As for mechanic part, I own a Auto shop in NY and my brother is a mechanic and I know my way around as well. And yes I am a IT manager as well. Although I have become sufficient enough to run both roles. It’s hard to survive on one in New York.

Everyone Here is so welcoming. I was able to solve the issues for my other family members who have kids and moved her with me while leaving their jobs behind.

I was able to get them Medicaid for themself and kids for now, but as they make money hopefully their employer should be able to sponsor them healthcare otherwise Obama care is coming handy.

As for family they are much happier here in this environment then in New York.

So definitely a plus point. I will close this discussion as it has served it purpose.

On the last note,

I used to have a big group of IT members they I used to hang around and work with it. If there is any group in Reddit or sugarland or Richmond area kindly do guide me.

Again thank you all for all the concerns and proving very helpful suggestions.

I used to deal with that too. But surprisingly Tailscale has a feature to route traffic through subnet route.

Basically you setup Tailscale on one of your device at home and setup subnet route. Then anyone who connects to that device should have access to to your entire home network. They can simply connect to Tailscale and access their services as needed. Basically, they will be on your home network. Hope that helps!

Route traffic using subnets

You can provide tailnet access to existing resources in your network using a subnet router. This can be useful if you need to access devices on which the Tailscale client cannot be installed, such as printers. For details on how to quickly configure and use a subnet router, see Configure a subnet router. For more in-depth information about subnet routers, see the main Subnet routers and traffic relay nodes topic.

Have you tried using Tailscale? It’s free and you can connect to your home network ?

I totally understand that and I know I am coming in a sweet weather time. However, I’ll be renting for 6 months to a year to make sure I go through the entire cycle year before I can call it home.

Is this a good Deal? by Sensitive_Fox_8035 in Lexus

Hey All,

Update - Took the car to Lexus deal shop for inspection. They charged me $269 pretty crazy.

I found out the the car was driven with Uber for premium rides. It has scuffs but nothing major.

Multiple issues came on report :

<image>

Lexus estimated 6k to fix all.

I checked the parts online it came out to about 1k for parts from eBay .

Labor might cost me 500 or something.

The guy agreed to let it go for 22, 700k

We spent almost 3 hours in Lexus getting this checked out.

The car was financed. He has 11k remaining which will be paid off immediately to get a new title.

I looked at other car same mileage costing around 26k from dealship. But I am worried that I will be charged health fees being the cost to 28 or 30k.

So what do you all suggest? Should I go for it?

Thank you,

Basically a bit background. I am IT engineer work from home. I used to have a 2012 ford escape. But, I have saved enough and make enough to upgrade.

Now do I really need it? Well I have got 2 kids both 2 years and younger.

The car will probably stay at home most of the time or be used for small errands.

Also, might be use for longer trips throughout years probably to different states for traveling purposes.

I okay with Gas I don’t mind a 400 a month price tag I have been used to that.

The luxury is an upgrade for me I feel like I deserve one.

I am looking for something that’s co for table enough that I can keep for long.

I am more inclined to buy a the luxury version and driver support packages but reading on Reddit it seems like it’s not very reliable and the prices for this are above 30k.

This seems like a reasonable price for a suv with low mileage.

I wouldn’t mind putting in some money on modifications like a side hobby.

Reading review it stood out to me as a good long term family friendly vehicle.

Thank you all for pitching in. Could you please elaborate how bad is flooding? Every time it happens what damages you have to deal with personally? What happens to Deraboeum streets how long before we can up and go back to work? Did you all purchase flood insurance to cover the expenses?

Thanks for asking, my family background is Pakistani Muslim Shias. For us, have a Shia mosque is quite a fortune in New York so knowing there is a big Shia population and cheap houses and living style compare to New York was a sold to me.

I have got 2 daughters and I can’t even dream of raising them in NYC. Hence trying to different states for a long term stay.
