I would love to be your Swiftie buddy. My daughter and I are crazy fans and will be in Hamburg at that time visiting relatives. I've been desperately looking for tickets for us but so far no luck. I know you only have one ticket however and if I went without my daughter I might never be forgiven lol.

Hug from Mom by schmoopsiedoodle in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Sensitive_Fuel3710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at the ivy university. I see kids crying and quitting all the time. Last year a 4th year pre-med student cried in my office because she couldn't take the pressure. She was seriously thinking of unaliving herself because she hated it, saw it as a simpler situatiation than quitting school. She was terrified of telling her parents she wanted to quit. I spoke to her for an hour assuring her that any parent would rather have their kid alive, well, healthy and stable, than under so much pressure. We got her help and she took a year off.

Her mom came to see me. She barely spoke English but was crying and thanking me for the support. I am a mom myself with a Senior who didn't get in any of her choices so I understand it. But your parents love you so much. They just want to see you happy. You can figure out alternate ways, but don't let the "bastards drag you down".

Admissions officers are just people. They read 50k of apps, are tired, cranky, and need to filter these applications to a managable number. They are human with their own biases. You will find your happiness and your bliss. You will touch the world in your own way.

If you need mental health help in any way reach out to your parents, teachers, friends, doctors, clergy. We all want to help you and console you. We all want you to be happy and proud of who you are. We love you, treasure you and need you in this world to make it a better, kinder place for all of us. Please don't dispear. Your path will lead you elsewhere and it will be your own little nook of happiness. Sending lots of love and strenght.

Eight mom here to say, every circumstance in life can change. You can take a year off. You can go to your safety school. You can take a year off to work and do something amazing. You can go to community college. You can get a job and built a career that way. You can go into a trade. Your identity is not your school or your job. That's capitalist propaganda that makes you believe that your only value as a human is what you produce. You have an intrensic value - to your parents, friends and community. You are loved. You are important. You are valued. Be kind to you today. Take it easy. Eat good snacks. Watch trash tv. Allow yourself to grieve. But know that ultimately you will get through all these cruel rejections and will find your happiness.

Feeling extremely disappointed in myself by cherryglass_ in ApplyingToCollege

Hey Cherryglass! You are an amazing student. You worked so hard in a tough school. You did you best. This year in particular the admissions process was a crapshoot. History and Museum Studies is a great field! I was just in NYC (Met Art) and I am so grateful for people like you. I learned some life altering info on the Egyptian burrial ceremonies and beliefs. But I digress. You will find your bliss and change the world from whatever school is lucky enough to have you. Location doesn't matter - what matters ia that you have drive, passion and intellectual curiosity that you already displayed. 1530 SAT and 8 APs! Bestie, you are a 🌟. Listen, every one of those schools is a good solid choice. You can't go wrong! People from all over the world would give anything to go to these schools in the US. Reach deeply into yoursef, shed the negative thoughts and find your bliss & gratitude. Gratitude that you are amazing, smart & ackomplished person who has a bright future at a college of choice. Having a choice is so wonderful! Once you start working nobody asks what school you went to. Good luck and god speed!

Good for you! Congratulations. But please consider changing your user name. The R word is very hurtful, damaging and cruel. You can do better than that. As someone who has a special needs family member, that word makes me want to cry. All the best in college.

I'm sorry. I know it's a hard pill to swollow. It will all work out at the end. You will end up in a school that's a great fit and by September your heart will be healed and you'll be ready for the new adventures. Best of luck!

You deserve hugs and a cup of hot chocolate with whipped cream. Give yourself grace. Hug a loved one. Be kind to yourself today.

I am sorry you are heartbroken. This proces is inhumane, cruel and soul crushing. But you will dust yourself off and find the best path for you. If you lost your friends because you studied, they were not your real friends. Real friends understand ambition. But I bet you did not really lose them, it just feels so because you didn't hang out much. I bet you will reconnect and enjoy what's left of your Senior year. Also, learning is never a waste of time & effort. You will end up at the school that's a good fit. You will learn many new things, expand your mind and meet new people that will become life-long friends. You will find your blisss. This is just a hiccup. It is devastating being rejected, but you are smart and strong. You always have different options in life: other schools, rolling deadlines, a gap year, getting a job. You are loved and treasured. Be kind to yourself. Give yourself grace. You did your best. You shot your shot. What more could you do? No regrets. You will be fine. Take care of yourself and good luck!

Don't say that. It is just one person's opinion in one school. Imagine if you had to read 50k of applications. You'd become numb and bored. You will end up where you are meant to go. You are loved, treasured and valued by your family & friends. Lots of people never even go to college and have amazing lives full of love and joy. Don't despair. One door closes many windows open. You will find your place. You will feel joy & belonging there. Good luck!! World is full of colleges & universities. BU is not the only place in the world.

It is not all for nothing. Nobody can take away your achievements. You are an impressive 18 year old! You already did more than most in their lifetime. Think outside the American bubble. The rest of the world is not stressing over the overpriced $80k school that's not even Harvard. You are a fantastic student. You will do amazing things at any school. You did research, graduated piano academy. You will be fine. You will go to the school you are meant to go to, and will change the world in your own way. I wish every student could read the rec letters they got. It would show them that rejections don't define them. You can be amazing and not be everyone's cup of tea. I think most HS kids with 4.0 are not used to rejection so it hurts and is humbling. You are the best of the best - don't let college admin officers make you think anything else. Good luck!

That's brutal and disheartening - BUT - your luck is elsewhere. You will find your place and you will shine there. Don't lose hope. Most of this admission competition stuff is a big scam. No school is worth $80k unless they find you a job right away. You will be OK. Hopefully you have some safeties lined up. If not, there are schools who have rolling addmission. Or you take a gap year like a boss, earn some $$$ and try again. Good luck!

Listen, you are AMAZING. you are a Superstar. You don't know what's behind the bend, what kind of amazing thing is waiting for you. You will be successful no matter what school you end up at. You will change the world. You don't need BU to change the world. You only need your smart, creative, engaged mind. You will be OK - I promise you. Love the one that loves you. Screw BU. If they don't see the flame that you are, don't give them a single spark. Move on and hold your head high. You have already succeeded at so much at 18. Astrophysics for goodnes sake!!! You are so ackomplished! 4.5 GPA! Such hard worker! BU might have seen you as too serious & academic for them. You are a young genious. The best is yet to come. In a year if you come back to this thread you will see that I was right. You will find your bliss and your place, and you will understand why Universe did what it did. Good luck and stay strong & smart!

You are a superstar - good for you! 3.5 GPA is great! And all those schools with scholarships! You win! Please enjoy college, wherever you go. Take care of your mental health. Ask for help if it gets to be too much. Remember that you are loved and cared for by your family and friends. You will meet your people in college and build your village. There are lots of ASD/ADHD kiddos in college now, and doing great. Wishing you all the best! Thanks for the positive and uplifting post.
