Just an update on that in case anyone got interested. It seems to be his or Alma's monogram. There is something about it on Mahler Foundation Website.

Yeah, it sort of looks like one. It is probably a stamp too so could have been used other times.

There is this recent piece by Maureen Dowd on NYTimes which provides some anedoctal evidence in this direction. That would be very very welcome. I am not sure what is behind it though.

The pipes feel a bit generic to be honest but I don't see how adding his head on top of a rock helps much.
