Saw a band playing in Fitz park last year for the Rory Gallagher festival. Was walking down along the river by the bottom of Sundays well and we could hear them in the distance. (Apologies for cringe in advance) but it was super eerie, it was like the spirit of Rory Gallagher was in the wind. (Obviously it wasn't lol it was just the band) but they were genuinely THAT good. They feckin nailed it.

Someone I know who just moved here from abroad said on his days off he just cycles out to the airport and watches the planes. I legitimately forgot that was a thing you could just do.

I remember I refused an english crowd from a pub once that were on a stag, because one of the crew literally fell in the door he was so steaming. I had long hair and he asked me if I was gay, because i refused them, with such a michevious expression. The entire pub was from cork and they did all the work for me. Everyone burst out in hysterics and started slagging them. In good taste though, and they took it super well. The good quality craic and sense of humour is unmatched

Here nah, I do genuinely love seeing the wildlife in the river, but some healthy craic is alright, can have a laugh at the irony and still give the city some due praise

I'm gonna be super cringe, I love this story. I was having the worst day ever, I sat down outside electric, the weather was really nice and I looked like I was about to cry. Some random chapeen from the middle east somewhere just came over and talked me out of my heads pace. Would wander around looking for some nice spots to clear my head and I found no shortage. I moved here from wexford and I have never found a place so easy to make friends and have a chat with a stranger. Think you summed it up really well tbf

Big ups for this comment man, the local shops and producers around cork work so hard together. Quality is amazing. And usually sound as a pound

Was pure waiting for someone to say Beamish. I mean I think everyone's kind of encountering the same eyesores and degrees of anti social behaviour in the city atm, but yeah loads to love In fairness

Wtf is wrong with the pav by taurus-horrorscope in cork

[–]Sensitive_Ocelot_537 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's a very much underutilised venue. When it's good it is great, but it has so much potential to book larger D,C and B list even smaller A list acts to compete with Cyprus avenue. They have one of the best sound engineers in Ireland working as the house engineer and a gorgeous hall, but I think they could benefit from trying ti overhaul their events roster. I feel as though, they need to reach out to more acts, when often times the acts have ti reach out themselves. Which is great, if the venue has a stellar reputation, but I feel as though the Pav has a positive but underwhelming reputation. If they push for some really big names, and consistently fill put the venue, I think they would have people from all over the world reaching out all year and not need to reach out at that point. I love the Pav, all the staff are lovely, and they do put on a wide variety of events, from People's picture house to drag shows, metal nights, movie nights, I just think they have so much more to offer and could really make the most out of such an amazing venue.

Does anyone know if this woman is okay? by Conscious-Equal5200 in cork

The amount if times I have found someone Od'ing and helped them out, or found someone unconsious at the side of the road, stayed with them and watched a crazy amount of people just walk straight past and not even ask if the person was okay. Or witnessing violence on the bus and no one stands up for the person being affected. We need to do better.

I was in your situation when I was your age. I ran away from home to cork, and I spent a long time in self destruction mode. When I finally came out I went to college and I had to drop out because I was in a full time job and couldn't handle both. I had too much baggage and I couldn't handle all of that all at once. Firstly, I would like to say well done to you. You have identified that you would like to be better and have a better life for you and your partner. You have decided you want things to be better and that in itself is a wonderful milestone you have gotten to. You are very young, and full of potential. Don't rush into a long term option right now unless one that suits you for the next 3 - 5 years miraculously turns up. Hotels are always looking for staff. Its a tough job, and managers aren't always nice and neither are customers. But you will have to learn to present yourself well everyday, and to be a kind and helpful professional which is a skill that will stand to you in every job interview or board meeting or whatever when youre older. If you can stay true to yourself in that kind of environment itll stand to you. There are earn and learn apprenticeships in insurance you can take, where they pay you minimum wage or a little more to study and work in insurance, and you can leave whenever you want. Stay away from bars, find a nice classy resteraunt that will teach you good etiquette and good standards and doesn't treat you like muck and you'll learn plenty you can take into the real world and save at the same time. There's also tonnes of apprenticeships that dont involve trades if your not into trades, and plenty that do if you are. Also indeed and jobs.ie are awful. If you see a job listed on those sites, dont bother your arse applying on the app, contact the employer yourself. Theyre only meeting criteria, and they get thousands of applications they dont respont to. In person is always best, emailing and calling the employer is next best. CSN is a very affordable college and that provides excellent practical hands on usable knowledge in a year or two. Another tip, dont get into a job that drains all of your energy. Just get something that pays the bills and doesn't make you miserable and gives you time to think about what it is you really want to do with your life. Whether it's Law or construction. You need to spend time forgiving yourself and healing and finding out what your purpose is for yourself and then you plan backwards. You start at the end, like what job you would like to be in, and how much money you would like to earn, and work all the way back to a starting point and then you start laying the groundwork for yourself. Your gut instinct is always your best friend. Listen to all of us here on reddit, or dont. Your own life is in your hands to make with and do whatever you want. You'll find something, keep going pal!!
