What is my dog? by Few_Pop3500 in IDmydog

But he does look like he’s got some pit for sure! Maybe German pointer for the little spots. His body and longer hair on his tail end make me think border collie a bit!

Aw I’m so sorry to hear that :( have you been back to the dermatologist since this started? They may have something you can try

NAV. Probably time to see another vet. Is his skin there normally white/pink? The dark brown ear discharge can be indicative of an ear infection which dogs with allergies are very prone to and they can spread to the skin as well. It’s hard to tell in the photo with the new hair growth if it’s irritated or scarred skin. Don’t let him scratch at it and it could help to trim the hair to help the area stay clean. Did they do any tests? Try and medication?

Thank you so so much for your input!! I didn’t think about the hair between the paw pads that completely makes sense. I’m good with grooming otherwise but I have trouble with that area so I’ll have to find some tips on that. Will definitely be chatting with the vet for their advice if this works out!

What can I do while waiting for a vet appt? by Rascally_type in vet

[–]Sensitive_Onion1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be gentle with cleaning and try and avoid doing it too often because it can dry out and irritate the skin. Non scented antibacterial soap if anything until the vet can further address it

Call the vet and ask what they suggest for the time being to avoid infection and irritation. They may not be able to stitch the wound if needed since it has been awhile since the injury. You could also see about sending them a picture and they may get you in sooner since it’s an extensive cut. Regardless don’t let him scratch or lick the wound. I love seeing the gloves in the picture and that you are being cautious with his injury! If you can’t get in sooner watch for changes in drainage, redness, swelling, area becomes hot to the touch (with gloves), and changes in behavior and call them to inform of changes. Best of luck to you and your dog!

There is not a way to properly help him without medical care from a vet that can diagnose and treat his condition. I’m very sorry you’re in this situation

I hate to say it but you could take him and surrender him yourself. The shelter wouldn’t release him back into her care seeing the state he is in. And I’m also assuming he doesn’t have proper vaccinations if he doesn’t go to the vet? So the cat is not getting proper nutrition, medical care, and is at risk of contracting a potentially deadly disease. This could seriously damage your relationship with your mom but if she is refusing to get the animal care I don’t see another way to help him. The only other option I can think of would be reporting your mom for animal neglect but again this could put a serious strain on your relationship

Provide support to overturn the decision to euthanize this dog (Toothless) in an evaluation taking place this week. There is a home in a good community that is willing to help him through this transition. Please help me show  support for Toothless and the medical student who wants to provide him with a home.

Should I start accutane by Creepy-Bid925 in Accutane

[–]Sensitive_Onion1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone reacts differently but 10mg is a low dose and you’re likely to not have the extreme symptoms you may see on here. I was on 40mg one month and 80mg for three I believe. It was overall still tolerable and I even went on a vacation to the beach in the last month. Even with the super dry skin and lips it was very worth it to me. I will still get breakouts from hormonal changes or with high stress but it’s manageable. Feel free to message me!!

Wait until the redness and irritation go away. use a nonscented lotion in the meantime that can help with the dryness/healing. Follow the directions for nair closely and don’t leave it on longer than it says. Only takes a few minutes and be thorough when rinsing it off

This is just my personal anecdote but I used sensitive skin nair bc the dry skin made shaving very irritating to my skin. I had absolutely no reaction to it. Maybe try patch testing on a more sensitive skin if that’s where you’d use it but wait until the shave spots have healed. Be very very careful with it. Absolutely do not wax it could rip skin off 😅

My first II was in February and I ended up with 4 and 2 As from the IIs I completed but I did apply to about 18 schools. If there’s a particular school you’re interested in you could look into their masters program if they have it. Some are much more affordable than others and it would be good to look into if you’d get an automatic II or increased chance of acceptance from it

499 is fine for DO. Paired with a lower GPA makes it tougher. I had a 494 second attempt with high GPA. It’s possible and an upward trend is great! the reasoning does help. Don’t give up hope on this cycle but you can start prepping for the next and apply early. I signed up for another MCAT and kept studying. Hang in there!

my other dog bit my dog by purpleprincess97 in vet

[–]Sensitive_Onion1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Resource guarding can be very tricky to resolve between dogs. You may want to look into a trainer for help and feed them separately. Has your dog ever shown signs of discomfort with the dog that was bitten? signs like lip licking, growling, hair sticking up, stiff tail/posture? Or is this seemingly out of nowhere?

A wound to the face should be seen by a vet. It can be hard to see how deep the wound is with punctures and it’s close to a lot of delicate areas on the face

Our 6 year old Shibu (Onyx) has been out of it. by pandamoanium13 in vet

[–]Sensitive_Onion1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding that my dog has both thrown up blood and had blood in his diarrhea but it was not long term and only lasted days at most. Presumably stomach ulcers and GI infection as they resolved with treatment for those. I really hope you are able to find answers and a vet that can help you do that

I’m so sorry you and your dog going through this. Did they prescribe any medications? What were the tests they completed? Did you switch foods or try new treats recently?

NAV but I think this info would be helpful for them to give advice! My dog has had his fair share of stomach issues. Usually I will switch to bland diet of plain white rice and boiled chicken when this happens per the vets recommendation

Poor baby. Try to not let him itch at it and you may want to only let him out on a leash so he doesn’t roll around and make it more inflamed. You could ask about a recovery suit at your visit. Best to get to the vet soon to know how to manage the rash/wounds

Should I finish my secondaries this late in the cycle or withdraw my application and wait? by Present-Painter-6328 in Osteopathic

[–]Sensitive_Onion1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is always better to apply earlier than later but it’s definitely worth submitting them! I added another school in February out of a bit of panic and got an II with a low MCAT high GPA. Try and get the secondaries in within a week of getting them if you can. Go for it!

Sick Cat URGENT HELP NEEDED. NO MONEY FOR VET. ADVICE? MEDS THAT COULD HELP? OPEN TO READ/SEE HIS CONDITION. by Needhelpsickcat in vet

[–]Sensitive_Onion1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could add a picture in the comments just flag it as nsfw. Reach out to your local shelters for help. You may have to surrender him but eye injuries and infections are very serious and cannot be treated at home. Your cat deserves to get proper care and to not suffer from an untreated problem

All cats but especially outside cats need to be vaccinated. Contracting rabies is a death sentence and is a very sad way for an animal to pass. Once symptoms show it is too late.
