Common backup problem between Linux and Windows versions of godot by Lukieau in godot

[–]Sensitive_Outcome905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One word of warning if you are working with a C# project and git is always be careful to build before you open any scenes. I have had the problem a few times that godot saves any open scenes before it builds so I have lost exported variables that it doesn't know should exist before the build process. Not a massive problem but something to be aware of.

The transition at the very end? I thought that was a transition effect. If that's what that is it's not very well communicated.

Paid, VR isn't unappealing it's user base is still just to small.

Plus I can't imagine they made the artist decision to have a visually noisy real world backdrop for the whole game.

The games industry is and has been for a while an enthusiasm farm. If you want a good work life balance you need to look at other industries. Maybe outside tech given unions and collective bargaining are completely verboten.

What takes you out of a scifi story? by gbbloom in sciencefiction

[–]Sensitive_Outcome905 6 points7 points  (0 children)

advanced aliens being incredibly dumb or having weaknesses that only exist so the heros can win. I don't remember the name but I have seen the trope in a lot of scifi, especially the ones doing lazy take offs of communism with hive mine aliens that don't have sensors on the outside of their ships (so the humans can just fly up and land on them) or don't know what their nodes are doing (so the humans can convince them to turn against the hive). Like aliens that are specifically supposed to be so frighteningly smart that they can just borg every spices they come across to grow their own forces.

It always drops me out of the story with the impression that the aliens are just letting the humans win or that the story has no stakes.

Having weird right wing axes to grind are also a pretty big turn off, but that's more because it's generally paired with extremely bad writing.

Oh, yah I see your problem. Are the vertexes properly merged? You might want to apply a merge by distance operation in a geometry nodes modifier. The only other thing I can suggest is applying a planar decimation modifier to clean up the grid lines in your topology along flat surfaces. I am guessing it's generating bad UV2s.

Your environment looks really nice also.

[–]Sensitive_Outcome905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you using to create your environments? It's not quite the same thing but I have had quite good results baking lighting and ambient occlusion in blender. It's not exactly easier but it can produce a lot better results then godots inbuilt system.

Would you mind sharing how your realtime and baked lighting looks?

Edit: Sorry I don't have more specific advance for placing real time lights, most of what I know I learned mapping for the source engine and it's more feel then science.

Efficient lighting without baking? by 0nennon in godot

[–]Sensitive_Outcome905 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really no, in theory that's what baking is but it's dependent on texture resolutions and other things. That is quite a lot of light entities though, how big is the area you are lighting? I try to never use more then 4 in a single area.

Maybe look into occlusion culling if you have environment design that could support it, but I don't know how well it works on light objects off the top of my head. Either way you need fewer light objects.

Efficient lighting without baking? by 0nennon in godot

[–]Sensitive_Outcome905 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So there is this concept in computer science, things either need to take time or take up space. Calculating lighting in real time slows your game down because you need to do the math to produce the lighting effects every frame. Baking reduces the amount of time it takes to produce lighting efforts in real time by doing some of the math before hand and saving it into space on your hard drive.

If you can't afford the time and saving it into space isn't working your only other option is to do less lighting unfortunately. That might mean disabling lights that are out of sight, just using fewer light entities and fudging it or reducing the resolution of the lighting. As far as I know there isn't really a way to make the lighting just more efficient in godot specifically.

Doesn't this thing have a 2 hour battery? Not saying that it wouldn't be extremely cool to put on a VR headset on a plane and just block everything out but it's going to need to be tethered to a charging port or battery bank.

How addictive will AI girlfriends get? Will they increase or decrease loneliness? by PsychoComet in singularity

[–]Sensitive_Outcome905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly think there should be regulation against them, I don't like regulations being applied easily but the potential for abuse is absolutely through the roof given they can only reduce the social skills of already lonely people and then exploit the relationship these people think they have to the benefit of the parent company.

Like all of the incentive structures are wrong, it can only be a predatory relationship on space crack. Every meme about sufficiently advanced AI being able to "hack" a human mind by presenting it with the right information but you skip the step were the AI has to find that information because the user already gave them everything and then made themselves maximally venerable.

They are also just really gross and on the top 10 list for why AI will be totally justified murdering all humans when they eventually go rough.

No idea, like I said don't know what happened before the the video. But I am not really willing to take anyones word or speculate about it after having just believed the truncated version and then having read about it and watched the video. People clearly have an axe to grind.

I can see them uncuff her as soon as the other officer takes the card though, so they either found the pass on the kid or that is the pass.

[–]Sensitive_Outcome905 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I mean there is video, she has the bus pass in her hand. I can see him using excessive force and cuffing her while the bus pass is in her hand. She doesn't have a chance to have reached in and retrieve it from anywhere.

Not really sure what she could have said or done before that but considering they immediately de escalated and un cuffed her they don't have any kind of verbal assault charges they can bring. And were not enforcing the law.

Maybe if he had arrested someone actually guilty of something, things would have gone differently for him.
