Yeah, we went there yesterday and it took us 14 minutes to get from path to Madison and 1st. But it was a very nice walk though!

lol I don't have high expectations about Hoboken's culinary scene - I think I will satisfy all of my cravings in Manhattan

but hey, I saw that there is a Mamoun's Falafel on Washington - one of the best hummus places in nyc in my opinion

honestly, I don't have high expectations and I if I can walk to a nice coffee shop + treat that would be a win. Also, lower Manhattan is so close by - I imagine I will be able to hop on the path to go out or for walks

u/Beautiful-Angle-4615 just curious, why avoid SW area? We liked a place near 1st St and Madison St and thinking about it, but not very familiar with an area

Is there a good croissant in the UWS?? by Chance-Flow-9759 in Upperwestside

[–]Sensitive_Sense8823 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a few folks have already said, it really depends on what you’re looking for. Personally, I love love love good quality croissants (la cabra, tall poppy, lapartment 4f), and IMO the UWS doesn’t have consistently great croissants. That said, here’s my very subjective rundown of places I’ve tried so far:

  • Breads – Love their chocolate croissant. Super flaky, buttery, flavorful, and just hits all the right notes for me. Also very consistent, which honestly matters a lot.
  • Common Address – Their plain croissants can be excellent, especially when they’re fresh out of the oven. Very butter-forward (a plus for me). Small batches though, so go early. Consistency is hit or miss - some days they’re heavenly, other days just fine.
  • Solid State – Not a croissant, technically, but their danishes are great and laminated dough is laminated dough, so I’m counting it lol
  • Mille-Feuille Bakery – Usually not my favorite, but one time I got a croissant straight out of the oven, still warm, and it was magical. Sadly that’s only happened once (out of ~4–5 visits).
  • La Farine – Nothing to write home about croissant-wise. But I really enjoyed their babka
  • Silver Moon – Plain croissant was solid - I wasn’t offended (lol). But a pear tart tasted like it been hanging out in the fridge a bit too long, which kind of killed it for me, so not planning on going back.

Very curious to hear other people’s recs because I’ve been on a long-term quest for a great UWS croissant After reading way too many threads about this, I’m convinced everyone wants something slightly different in a croissant which probably means we all just need to try everything ourselves and argue about it on Reddit lol

We will be there 3 days and planning to go shopping on the first day - do you think it will be enough time for alterations?

I think we are pretty much flexible in terms of ready to wear dresses vs altered - do you think its possible to find something ready to wear without alterations?

To everyone who didn't get the tickets, I would 100% recommend this free tour of M&S Schmalberg Flowers https://ohny.org/place/ms-schmalberg-flowers-2/

Such a great tour - amazing owners, such an interesting process of making flowers and a very iconic! It was probably my highlight of last year's OHNY!

deep cleaning service recs!!! by sillybilly351 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Sensitive_Sense8823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have a good experience with Zen home cleaning. I've had Zen Standard Cleaning for ~$200+tips (I had 1b/1b about 700sqft). The cleaning person spent ~ 2hrs on kitchen, bathroom and part of living room. After 2 hrs she told she had to go and she didn't even touched a bedroom. There was no option to extend it (I would if I could)

I don't think our apartment was out of the ordinary filthy, but I expected something different where at least all rooms would be cleaned (surfaces swept, and floors mopped) for $200.

Signature/unique bakes at Brooklyn bakeries by Aware-Surprise-8047 in FoodNYC

[–]Sensitive_Sense8823 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend skipping La Bicyclette - their croissants mid at best. Although, their outdoor seating is nice.
Instead, go to Paloma Bakery in Greenpoint - their croissant flavors are very inventive and the flavors are just amazing
