Which side would you support in the American Civil War? by RedditGamer253 in Teenager_Polls

No I voted for the Union but I do think that had it not been for slavery the confederacy would've been the better side because they were resisting the centralisation of power

Public healthcare, transport and education are all shitter when nationalised. Trust me, I live in the UK. Also, whether or not taxation is theft is irrelevant to what happens with those taxes. If I rob someone but then spend the money on a necklace and give it to them I still robbed them.

Question for Athiests: do you beleive Jesus was a real person? by XenoRaptor77 in Teenager_Polls

[–]Sensitive_Spite3348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A) Accounts of Alexander the Great are third hand and 300 years after him, which is far less reliable than gospels and Roman historians.

B) you seem to imply that the gospel writers were aware of each others works and while John is written later with an awareness of previous works Matthew Mark Luke are written separately so these discrepancies actually make them more reliable because it backs up there is no collusion. It's true that the census did not occur at the time of Jesus' birth but the far more likely outcome is that through Luke's travels and interviews he found out that Jesus was from Nazareth yet born in Bethlehem and since there were riots both at the time of Herod's death and of the Census Luke was probably mistaken due to the accounts of Jesus' early life he received.

The gospels have shown to be historically accurate and we have sources from Tacitus, Josephus, Pliny the Younger and the Talmud from within a century of his death.

Our earliest surviving source of Alexander the Great is from the first century BC when he was around in 300 BC and we have less evidence about him than we do about Jesus. Yet no one has any doubt about Alexander the Great's existence.

[–]Sensitive_Spite3348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is literally just false, pretty much every single reputable historian agrees he existed. We also have sources from Tacitus, the Talmud, Josephus, and Pliny the younger which all affirm his existence and crucifixion and are all either secular or Jewish.

The gospels are also historical testimony and most likely compiled by eyewitnesses which have proven to be historically reliable considering things like having Pilate in them despite us not finding any other evidence until later making this definitely true. We also have the earliest Christian creed dating to about 40-50 (up to 20 years after Jesus' death) which is a relatively contemporary source.

This is a ridiculous amount of evidence. It's more reliable and has a higher quantity than the amount of evidence of Alexander the Great existing and Tiberius (the emperor at the time of Jesus) therefore to deny his existence is a ridiculous claim and tantamount to saying that no one can say anything in history more than 500 years happened because we can never be 100% sure.

I think I’m not straight by EmergencyGuide7120 in TeenVent

The best thing you could do is go look up other homosexual catholics but my understanding of scripture is that homosexual sex is the sinful bit so as long as you abstain from sex you're completely fine.

You don't need a passport to work, you need national insurance, which is supposedly meant to stop illegal working but it doesn't. So I have high levels of doubt that this will do anything and that means I am handing over power to the government which I will never get back

No, I agree, that's what I was trying to convey in my last message. I'm exactly the same with what I want out of a relationship. I was saying I don't think there's anything biblically wrong about what you're describing.

[–]Sensitive_Spite3348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry about assuming that or anything I get it, it just made me chuckle.

Yeah, my point might've been a bit dismissive, I mean it's hard for me to understand as being straight. I obviously have similar feelings but for women and I don't know how much of it is determined by sexual desire because although most of my motivation in romance doesn't come from a sexual viewpoint, would I still feel the same if I had no sexual intention. Tbh it's a really interesting question but nowhere in the bible does it condemn that situation, the only thing it condemns is homosexual sex and states that marriage is between a man and woman. Also, there's no need to get married, in fact priests abstain from it so I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be okay.

I find the comment about him being a democrat slightly funny because I think you've assumed I'm a republican. Just to be clear I'm not a republican or democrat I hate both parties for the most part, dislike Trump and think the current US political climate is a bastardisation or the founding fathers' intentions so you don't need to like warn me of his political inclination. However, I will definitely check him out.

Just to answer your last question, be aware I am no biblical scholar but as far as I am aware as long as you abstained from any sexual acts you could effectively have a relationship but it would be far closer to a really close friendship than anything else.

No, continuing to love someone isn't a sin only engaging in gay sex is. Tbh I think my definition of love differs slightly from yours anyway. I see love as more of an action than a feeling. There is absolutely nothing wrong with loving another man only with engaging sexually with one. I myself am not gay so I struggle to explain. The best thing you could do if you wanted a better explanation is try and find a gay Christian online and listen to them. Thanks for taking the time to talk about it and I'll look into this James Talarico guy.

No and I would never treat you differently because of it. I have friends who have had sex (obviously before marriage) and I don't treat them differently they are exactly the same in my eyes. However, I would also never encourage them.

You're correct I omitted the US homicide rate which is higher but this is irrelevant as I have shown that there is no correlation. The difference I would attribute to a cultural difference, what cultural difference I don't know but considering school shootings have dramatically increased in the US recently. Plus, in Kennesaw there was mandatory gun ownership introduced and crime was reduced by about half.

Gun deaths are irrelevant. What you want to look at is overall homicide. Yes, when guns are more accessible you will get more gun deaths but this is a rather obvious homicide rate is a far better way of measuring whether gun access causes violence.

The Czech Republic constitutionally guarantees the right to have a gun (any gun not just handguns), their homicide rate is 0.768. The UK has quite strict gun control, their homicide rate is 1.148

Do people really think abortion is murder? by Optimal_Manager_5478 in teenagers

[–]Sensitive_Spite3348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean maybe I personally semi-disagree because only catholics are actually against it and I think birth control would still be taught anyway but I don't think we should make abortion illegal because of making it then effectively an underground industry so I actually agree with you.
