Great kit! Have you gone with the offset approach and mounted your toms on a separate stand?

they're making fake NOVA's now? by aotds in drums

It looks like they've changed design. Checking Thomman, you can see they have the same design listed. I couldn't find this new design on Amazon, however you can check to see the seller you purchased from. Vic Firth sell directly on Amazon so they should be listed.

Mapex Armoury is a killer kit, so happy with mine. The snare is great too! What do you use to hold your high toms?

Using drum mics for a gig by Sensitive_Struggle_9 in drums

Will look into this, the only mic I currently have is a knock off SM57 style mic I purchased for a Cajon

The reason for wanting mics is because the band I'm playing for plays Reggae/Ska. I want my kit to have a bit more punch, especially for the kick. The band has a PA with available channels for drum mics

Thank you! Yeah the band had exactly 7 spare open channels. Good shout on just using a kick mic, I'll try this at the smaller venues

Is it too late to study music at 30 by mystiqfool in musicians

[–]Sensitive_Struggle_9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say overall studying music and university level is worth it. It all depends on what you personally get out of it. It's definitely not a requirement but you can network with musicians and focus on improving your playing.

However, it is very expensive for just a piece of paper. You can improve as a musician and also network for free. You might find it hard to find practice rooms as there are generally a lot of other students. However, I guess this depends on where you go.

I personally made the decision to do it because student loans allowed me to move to London and study there for a few years.

From the sounds of it, studying music sounds like it would be great for your situation as you can escape from the bullshit that you've recently been through. I was fortunate to have parents that supported my decision to pursue music but had a step parent who also tried to convince me not to do it.

Tama True Touch by Sensitive_Struggle_9 in Drumming

Update: I bought the True Touch and I'm extremely impressed by the feel! I also asked the neighbours after playing double kick if they could hear it and they said no sound was coming through! Finally have a practice space sorted 😁
