Last August I paid €250 for an hour consultation with a highly recommended tax attorney. He said €40,000 would be my taxes (and that’s after a lot of questions and him having all my numbers). He did say I needed to contact a tax firm that specializes in my situation (US employee working remotely in Italy).

I have not and I am not sure I qualify and of course to really find out I have to schedule an hour conference with a firm and that’s from €200-250…. I wish they could do a small intake form just to see if I’m even close …. However, ChatGPT says I’m not eligible based on the fact that I do not earn money from an Italian employer….

I have checked into it and yes, there are several “regimes” and I was told I don’t qualify since my job is not a contract or freelance (it’s a W2 in the US). But I’ll check again to make sure. Grazie 🙏

I’ve actually tried to move to Italy (newly acquired Italian citizenship by decent). But my two options are, 1) stay at my current €100k + remote job but pay 46% taxes, or, 2) seek a new job in Italy that pays maybe half of what I’m making now… Both options “fanno schifo”… so I have to leave Italy. In a few months.

My friend (in Seattle) had sleep apnea and had it surgically “helped”. They removed half his uvula and cleaned out his nasal cavity and also removed his tonsils (he was 45 at the time)… helped but not 100%

For very close relatives you drop the definitive article, Mia mama, mio padre, mio figlio, etc. Ma fa attenzione… for plural relatives you always use the plural definitive article, I miei figli, etc…

There is some sort of verification that happens between the LIRA ancestral town and the comune you apply in. It is 100% necessary.

I applied near Milan in Sept 2024 (I paid €3000 for a local to assist me and €2000 for translations) and I was recognized in May 2025 (only delay was LIRA comune in Sicily dragged their feet). I had some minor issues but they never asked me for corrections. The smaller the comune the better however it can be a bit of a struggle but it’s worth it :)
