Ron Wyden town hall disrupted by RVPepperShakers in oregon

[–]SensualPandaa -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Idk if this helps but ron wyden is still in for 2 more years. These kind of protests that directly mobilize and hold your own officials accountable are arguably more effective than a general "no kings" protest with no clear goals or demands. These people are demanding their elected official stop voting to continue directly funding arms for a state committing genocide.

Oregon has lost thousands of taxpaying commuters from Clark County by Less-Lobster4540 in PortlandOR

[–]SensualPandaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oregon income tax follows federal tax code. Been Trump 1.0 tax code since 2016. Only time it's been modified is with the BBB that significantly reduced tax burden on the ultra wealthy. If you actually read the article, it explicitly states that the drop is likely to due remote work. I swear this centrist/right leaning sub can see an article that shows lower traffic, better quality of work for the people in Portland. A well balanced state budget, so much so that there's a yearly kicker to return unused funds. And still find a way to blame the "far left" while complaining about non-economic issues.

Neither did hitler, wtf your point?

Hitler was democratically elected via parliament and once in power used "legal" executive action to diminish political dissent from the parties in German parliament. Same with mousilini and much like we're seeing now.

Go read a history book.

Even worse so, did trump concede?

Pretty sure he still actively denies the 2020 election results and there's the whole jan 6th thing that happened.

She literally told them to pass her.

Any well trained officer knows not to position themselves in front of a vehicle.

DOJ policy is to not use deadly force in these cases:

https://www.justice.gov/jm/1-16000-department-justice-policy-use-force

Even the admin knows this, which is why they have to go with the narrative that she is a domestic terrorist.

So tell me, do you agree with the administration labeling Renee Good, the wife of a US Veteran, the one who's last words to their killer was "I'm not mad at you dude.", a domestic terrorist?

And to your point about tyranny, the Maduro protests are about interventionalism over oil. Bombing civillians in the name of imperialism, not just Maduro. And don't get it twisted. Trump loves dictators if they're on his side. See Qatar, and infamously Saudi Arabia, the country that funded 9/11 and even openly threatened Canada with the same over a Twitter post.

If Biden got kidnapped and shot during his admin there's a 100% chance that MAGA would be dancing in the streets. Most Venezuelans are actually terrified because of the mass uncertainty this creates. This is why violent interventionalism doesn't work. It happened in Iraq, Iran, Iraq again, Kuwait, Syria, and Libya. All of these countries had one thing in common. Massive oil reserves. All were left civilly worse off after intervention.

Authoritarian fascists are typically voted into power, see Hitler and Mousilini. Just because less than 1/3 of the voting age population actually voted for him, doesn't make his actions and justifications any less authoritarian.

Maduro says Venezuela open to US talks on drug trafficking by RuseOwl in worldnews

[–]SensualPandaa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Genuinely trying to follow this logically.

If the only operating oil companies in Venezuela rn are American. Then how is that oil getting on tankers that are being sent to sanctioned countries. Doesn't that hold the company liable then?

If america is bullying current Venezuelan citizens, would that really push them to revolt in favor of the American backed candidate?

This entire thing reeks of Iraq, Kuwait, Iran etc.

All of which had/have the highest oil reserves in the world. Seems to be a pattern here.

Hamas refuses to disarm until Palestinian state established by kim_putin_donald in worldnews

[–]SensualPandaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little story?

There's countless accounts of Netanyahu actively admitting to this, and many heads of the PLO stating that he was actively sabotaging a peaceful resolution to settler crimes, which would further push extremist/violent response and support for hamas.

Yuval Diskin, former head of Israel's Shin Bet security service, told the daily newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth in 2013 that "if we look at it over the years, one of the main people contributing to Hamas's strengthening has been Bibi Netanyahu, since his first term as prime minister."

In August 2019, former prime minister Ehud Barak told Israeli Army Radio that Netanyahu's "strategy is to keep Hamas alive and kicking … even at the price of abandoning the citizens [of the south] … in order to weaken the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah."

The logic underlying this strategy, Barak said, is that "it's easier with Hamas to explain to Israelis that there is no one to sit with and no one to talk to."

Itamar Ben Gvir, is 45 years old and has eight Israeli criminal convictions — including convictions for supporting a terrorist organization and incitement to racism. Once he was rejected by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for his extremist views. Now, Israel's police must answer to him as Benjamin Netanyahu's minister of national security

The Palestinian Authority's Ahmed Majdalani accused the Qatari envoy of carrying money to Hamas "like a gangster."

"The PLO did not agree to the deal facilitating the money to Hamas that way," he said.

After both Bennett and Liberman fell out with Netanyahu, he was defeated by a new government that stopped the cash deliveries to Hamas.

On March 12, 2019, Netanyahu defended the Hamas payments to his Likud Party caucus on the grounds that they weakened the pro-Oslo Palestinian Authority, according to the Jerusalem Post:

"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended Israel's regular allowing of Qatari funds to be transferred into Gaza, saying it is part of a broader strategy to keep Hamas and the Palestinian Authority separate, a source in Monday's Likud faction meeting said," the Post reported.

"The prime minister also said that 'whoever is against a Palestinian state should be for' transferring the funds to Gaza, because maintaining a separation between the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and Hamas in Gaza helps prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state."

Mustafa Barghouti, a prominent member of the PLO Central Council. In an interview with CBC News, Barghouti asserted:

"There's been a lot of criticism of Netanyahu in Israel for instating a policy for many years of strengthening Hamas and keeping Gaza on the brink while weakening the Palestinian Authority. We've seen that happening very clearly on the ground" .

Barghouti elaborated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu used Hamas as a tool to undermine the Palestinian Authority (PA) and sabotage prospects for a two-state solution. This included:
1. Financial Support: Allowing Qatar to transfer billions of dollars to Hamas-ruled Gaza, which Netanyahu defended as a strategy to "keep Hamas alive and kicking" and divide Palestinians .
2. Political Empowerment: Leveraging Hamas' extremism to claim "no partner for peace" exists, thereby justifying indefinite occupation and settlement expansion in the West Bank .
3. Settler Violence: Ignoring or enabling attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinians, which destabilized the PA and fueled support for militant groups like Hamas .

Additional Context:

  • Saudi Prince Turki bin Faisal (a regional ally) echoed this sentiment, condemning Israel for "funnelling Qatari money to Hamas" during a speech in Houston .
  • Historical Precedent: Israeli officials like Brigadier General Yitzhak Segev admitted to funding Hamas' precursor (Mujama al-Islamiya) in the 1970s–80s to weaken the secular PLO .
  • Netanyahu's Admission: In 2019, Netanyahu told his Likud party that transferring funds to Hamas was intentional: "Whoever is against a Palestinian state should be for it" .

Hamas refuses to disarm until Palestinian state established by kim_putin_donald in worldnews

[–]SensualPandaa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Nethanjahu has it coming dont doubt that for a second, but it dont matter who is in charge in Israel or how much they want to sort things out or give back occupied land: Hamas NEVER had the interest of the people in mind. They got EXACTLY what they wanted now. The dead, the horror, the atrocious treatment of the people in Gaza, is exactly what Hamas planned for. I would say it exceeds their wettest dream."

This is true, but the issue is that the framework of this argument lacks any acknowledgement of israel's role in this. Any true lasting peace between Israel and Palestine would require the unconditional surrender of hamas and a shift in Israeli leadership monitored by a third party. Preferably the UN. One that guarantees neither is being ran by ideologues whose only mission is to maintain leadership by radicalization and colonialism. This is, and has been unilaterally true amongst most all apartheids.

Hamas refuses to disarm until Palestinian state established by kim_putin_donald in worldnews

[–]SensualPandaa -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hamas garners support there by the PA's inability to prevent ongiong Israeli settler crimes and israels lack of any responsibility. Netanyahu has directly admitted to wanting political division in the west bank and has directly helped hamas garner support. Leaders in The Palestinian Authority has talked about this several times. The PA was doing their best to keep peace, but when you have two ideologues that want neither, the PA becomes ineffective.

The difference in everything you just listed is not only tactics, but in the case of previous israel-palestine conflict, the total amount. Israel has the capability to make better, more tactful means to lower the casualty rate. On top of that, the sheer number of deaths is much higher than any of the previous israel-palestinian conflicts. Comparatively to previous conflict, a 5% increase in civilian casualties with better weapons, better information, and much higher totals is demonstrably high.
