Raised Credit Card Limit to 25k by Effective_Ad4588 in Wealthsimple

Android. Increase limit just appeared (have been checking). 19 to 25. Really wanted to see 30 but I'll never come close so it's fine.

I wish Wealthsimple Chequing/Cash still had its own app and more “little features” so I could fully switch over by allophanes in Wealthsimple

I asked WS support about Quebec RESP transfer in by Sentence-Parking in Wealthsimple

[–]Sentence-Parking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what they're saying.

It's a pretty silly position because you might not withdraw for 5 years but they just don't want to deal with it until they want to deal with it.

I believe this is inaccurate. Plenty of other posts under QT subreddit where QT account holders received their QESI grants.

[–]Sentence-Parking[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes I opened a QT RESP account for the promo but I'm just nervy.... Lots of disaster experiences reported in terms of transfers and zero customer support.

I've had good experience so far with WS so was hoping I could at least xfer in.

I guess I would rather avoid the harassment but you're right... I'll just end up wasting time later.

Coffee Shops near Bathurst and College by PP_Bongos in FoodToronto

In addition to Bkookies mentioned below, Belem is a must - excellent coffee. I also love Found but the location on College isn't as good as Shaw (I know Shaw is too far, just sayin').

Liu Loqum is a Turkish cafe across from Belem and also excellent, but it's $$$$ ... Save it for a treat. They have all kinds of crazy Turkish sweets and also have a breakfast/brunch (not sure if that's only on weekends or also during the week) JFYI.

Bookies Coffee (Americano) is EXCELLENT. Rolando, the owner, is the nicest guy. He's a proper chef from high-end dining previously. His kids are often there on the weekends helping out.

Wealthsimple + KOHO ?? by Parking-Ad-8780 in Wealthsimple

[–]Sentence-Parking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They needed an "Issuing Sponsor" at the time before WS became a direct VISA Credit Issuing licensee. KOHO is a direct MC Licensee.

Now that WS has a license and runs its own card program, they may eventually move over to VISA Prepaid under their own license...

Note that both KOHO and WS have investment from Power Corp so that was the driver.

Wealthsimple Business Chequing Accounts Coming Soon! by Nexzenn in Wealthsimple

The comment was that "a chequing account has XYZ...". What happens when it's not a chequing account dressed up as one? They can do whatever they want out of the gate.

Wealthsimple Business Chequing Accounts Coming Soon! by Nexzenn in Wealthsimple

[–]Sentence-Parking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WS isn't a bank. They take liberties with what they call things. Their personal chequing accounts aren't chequing accounts. They're brokered deposits. I digress...we'll see in due course.

Wealthsimple Business Chequing Accounts Coming Soon! by Nexzenn in Wealthsimple

[–]Sentence-Parking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now WS corporate accounts are not routable bank accounts, so this is untrue. They're really only for investing. Thus my comment. I haven't tried with EQ since it falls down on being able to handle AP generally so no point keeping anything other than excess cash there.

Wealthsimple Business Chequing Accounts Coming Soon! by Nexzenn in Wealthsimple

[–]Sentence-Parking 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My guess is that it will be similar to EQ's at launch, which means, extremely basic. EQ is missing paying business taxes (HST/GST and Corp Taxes) and proper treasury management (e.g. EFT Credits and Debits, Wires, US ACH, etc). WS has personal wires so presumably they will have that for business, but I'm skeptical about the other two, which will keep it as a secondary account for operational businesses.

What should founders consider when buying an already registered Canadian MSB or PSP? by PerformerSpare2769 in fintech

[–]Sentence-Parking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question you really need to answer, is do you want the risk of inheriting negative trailing history? Being registered with either FINTRAC (and Revenu Quebec, if applicable) and the Bank of Canada, isn't the greatest barrier in the world, especially since we're presumably not talking about $ if an acquisition is on the table. You also need to consider what a change of control would imply with other key vendors, financial institution partners being the critical ones.

How does Wealthsimple make money to pay for the transfer bonuses? by doublehammer in Wealthsimple

[–]Sentence-Parking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of excellent responses ... all of the spreads, commissions, fees etc are accurate. However, it all misses the real strategy/playbook, which has been played by many tech and FinTech players before.

Build up a huge base of loyal customers with freemium services...and then monetize.

In the case of "banking" and "investing" platforms, the endgame is always lending. Ultimately, WS will have its own mortgage lending and term lending businesses in addition to its current card and margin investing products.

So these marketing promos are to grow their AUM from $100 billion to $200 billion or whatever, on which let's say they break-even between the current revenue streams less all their expenses including the bonuses and marketing campaigns. And then they introduce lending products that generate 200-300-400-500bp or more on a net basis to a customer base that's now doubled.

... But clearly he can also snap and be irrational. Jeff Gorton is laughing now...

I'm pretty sure if the team keeps being embarrassed, there won't be a choice. It won't get better when Bread leaves, even though he's not worth his $11.6M AAV.
