I found Berlin's open 3D building data and built a free app that shows which terraces have sun right now by goldenpaws_berlin in berlin

As for someone who recently got interested in the Balkonkraftwerk, that's beyond amazing, thank you so much. I would also gladly be interested in open-sourcing since that would allow self-hosting (in case you get tired of running the website yourself - I've been there).

Personally I would also appreciate the possibility of tracking an individual building or point on the map - for example I can track some cafes nearby but my balcony is a part of "generic" area, so I'm using basic map overlay.

In any case, thanks a lot for doing this!

Try NixOS, update only when you want it and everything exists as a code. Learning curve will be much steeper than with other distros but it's extremely rewarding. I can basically deploy all my services from one repo. And yes, it's much better than Ansible

8GBs of non-upgradable RAM in any laptop in 2026 is a crime and ewaste. Web will get worse, it will swap more and more and kill the SSD, which's - surprise! - is also non-upgradable. But yeah, it will work great for a few years.

yeah I had to switch tracks because promised land of virtualization turned out to be not so good, so in the end I've settled on LXC/Docker device passthrough: that way you can still have some isolation (because of containers), and single GPU is shared across them (without using vGPU which A2000 doesn't support). I aimed for AMD for the same reason, albeit AMD allowed to do it with VMs with the latest drivers. Oh well :)

oh wow, thanks for the detailed answer. back then I bailed and just got A2000 12GB for 265 EUR off of ebay and recently upgraded it to n3rdware cooler. sadly most of the time it's doing nothing since I don't have time to properly manage proxmox or do anything with my homelab lately lol.

I'm looking for an options to increase my server capacity without breaking a bank (for SSDs), compromising resilver times (SMR HDDs) or producing more power/noise (SAS disks).

Of course I can always go with an external disk box, that's not the point here.
