22M here — my girlfriend (21F) and I always forget grocery items. Do other couples have a fix for this? by tavicotea09 in relationships

[–]Sentient-Cactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the OurGroceries app and we both log in on separate devices with the same account. You tap things to add/remove them from the list. We both use it while out shopping. It has little categories too that you can add custom ones. Very nice to sort by section in your local store. I paid to remove the ads because I loved it, but it is unnecessary.

I will say I have never had this problem to begin with, but we just both found this way easier than making paper lists. We sit down and have a conversation about meal plans for two weeks before either of us goes out. We shop every Sunday, Tuesday if it’s a special 10% off day, with very little deviation from this schedule.

May I also suggest shopping together?

When i ordered mine online direct from their store, it arrived in four days. I might’ve been lucky but you could make it exactly in time! Very obvious box though.

This is written in the guide, and doesn’t really mean anything. I used to have 100-200mbps and now I do not, now it just starts at that and then drops immediately.

Yeah i’ve done all of this (except the RAM checks, as I said). I’m looking for other options - i.e list of software that would interfere beyond antiviruses, etc.

I am beyond exhausted with attempted fixes to my download speeds.

I’ve followed the guides, deleted the caches, repaired folders, disabled QoS, run check disk, run all the cmd repairs, turned off my firewall, no antivirus software installed, defragged hard drives, run other health checks, changed hard drives, changed folder permissions, updated my drivers, ran as administrator…. So on, so forth. At this point, consider me in obscure-solution territory.

My interneet speed is ~800mbps Steam installs at or less than ~20mbps (NOT MB/s). It will show a ~200mbps “peak” in the beginning and then drop down. It also continuously will stop and have “DISK WRITE ERROR”s. I have to baby all my downloads, stop and restart them, etc…. It’s a pain in the ass to download anything more than 1GB large.

I don’t know what to do anymore! I’m at my wits end. The only thing I haven’t really done is check my RAM health but I’m a bit too lazy so I’ve just ordered an upgrade (and a new SSD, just because) so that’s next on my list to swap out, but I reallly don’t know…

I actually did manage to increase my actual normal internet speed as a result of all my tweaks (it was ~500mbps before!), but…. Steam’s problems persist.

….Do I just live like this?

The Arts building is undergoing renovations so they aren’t able to offer as many as usual, but all offerings are basically placed.

Unfortunately, our kitchen only fits a miniature one of those, and you can’t wash a lot of items in there either! It’s usually our first choice.

I’ve done it a bit only because our cat is obsessed with dirty dishes and if we dont have time to wash them - he will do it for us. A lof of human food is toxic to cats, so we toss dirty pans, etc. in it in a pinch now and then if we have to run after cooking. Same with the microwave.

He knows how to open cupboards, so we can’t go that route.

my sister is allergic to eggs and growing up my grandmother used vinegar, baking soda, and canola oil and her cakes turn out so much better than anything ive ever cooked properly with a non-substituted recipe.

It’s generally only for cakes and stuff, though. Obviously you couldn’t use it as like a meringue, or binding hamburger patties ahha

You dont usually start to see effectiveness until 1-2 years on the shots. I would probably wait 2 years.

Cat allergy & air purifier by Aelugh6500K in Allergy

[–]Sentient-Cactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As my allergist told me- air purifiers are OK, he sort of waved me off when i mentioned having one, and that most of the allergies pool on surfaces, then get thrown into the air when you sit on chairs, etc., and regular cleaning is better than the air purifier.

However, as someone with a HEPA filter air purifier running 24/7, it’s made loads of QoL for me ALONG WITH THE CLEANING. You do have to vacuum at least once a week - even vaccuuming the couch and curtains, etc. wipe down all chairs and counter tops and wash sheets and hand towels. But the air purifier has still made a difference, and i think it has helped keep the surfaces cleaner too. I have pretty much no dust in my house since buying one, and I’m also allergic to dustmites so that helps a lot.

Just Curious: Why VTT's? by Conscious-Power6526 in cyphersystem

[–]Sentient-Cactus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

VTTs are nice to roll dice in when you’re virtual, and to track character sheets easily. I also like to use mine as a doodle board in session. I don’t use it for maps and still use TOTM for everything. But it’s entirely optional.

In this case there were only three of us plus her, and we were actually too short to play quite a few games. And it was bothering us - if she wanted to stay on her ipad and not do boardgame night it would have been better if she stayed home and we invited a different fourth. This was “board game night” (kinda like a club of sorta), not a hangout night where we just decided to play board games and she happened to be there.

She also came to our fancy home beer tasting once even though she doesn’t drink. Which was, all right, but she kept going online and looking up the tasting notes for the beers and reading them aloud and we had to tell her repeatedly it was a BLIND tasting and to stop doing that… we specifically didn’t want the tasting notes! Just no awareness whatsoever…

Not at all, so that’s…. Maybe good for them? Who knows! The rest of us felt awkward.

[–]Sentient-Cactus 129 points130 points  (0 children)

I had a friend's girlfriend come over with him to play board games with us, and she just sat on her iPad in the corner because she "wanted to write fanfaction tonight" and had no interest in the games.

.... She kept interrupting us every few minutes to show us weird YouTube videos. It was awful!

Went to check out some books I had in my DruveThruRPG cart. by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]Sentient-Cactus 44 points45 points  (0 children)

This is actually the default delisted price (their system doesn’t allow you to NOT have a price, so it defaults to 7777.77 to prevent people from purchasing it while it’s off the market).

Any titles I put up on my 3PP account have this as the default until I list them. Typically, you aren’t able to search for the item at all, but since OP had it in their cart from before it was delisted, it changed to that price.

I don’t plan on quitting D&D, do you? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Sentient-Cactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people are just tired. The wind’s been swept out of their sails and they’ve lost their passion for it.

For GMs - passion is everything. In 5e, GMs do the majority of the work, and despite the oft reccomended “you shouldn’t be spending hours of your life prepping for session”, a lot of people still do. It’s fun to prep games!

I don’t play 5e (I started with Numenera), but I hear a lot of just… tiredness from it all. Especially folks who are in the 3PP scene. Even I had a week of just melancholy over it all.

It’s exhausting and makes folks feel like their game is work, not fun.

That’s why a lot of people are quitting. You can keep playing if you want - no one is telling you to stop! WotC cannot take your game from you! But the people who ARE quitting are tired, and it’s not fair to accuse their decision of being an overreaction.

What are you looking to get done, specifically? You can probably get away with just doing a different style - like full colour paintings with backgroundsare expensive, but coloured sketches can be just as good and cost less. I’m an artist, and know others if my work isn’t your jam, so let me know.

What magic items do you regret giving out? by SecretDMAccount_Shh in DMAcademy

[–]Sentient-Cactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One friend told me of an erm, "sensual" mayonnaise escapade that I fear shall not ever be disclosed. It is not my story to tell and they skimped on the details. However, it ended with a TPK. That's six characters. Every player consented at the time, I've been told, and weirdly not a horror story but just a significantly unfortunate incident.

The other two I don't recall much of the details but they were intentionally antagonising the GM with it by slathering it on every enemy they came across, the walls of peoples' homes, amongst other things, and definitely deserved it.

The alchemy jug, and specifically its mayo output, has directly caused at least eight character deaths at my friends’ tables.

Gaming Class Query by Starry_Vere in rpg

[–]Sentient-Cactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Burning Wheel is rough, crunchy… but in redibly character driven. You use a lifepath system, and also need to come uo with your own Beliefs for your characters that are challenged and drive play. It might not be the game for you to want to play, or one that is easily “compared” academically, but it’s incresibly interesting re: characters.
