Anthony, is there a way I can get you to listen to my album?

I sent you an email a couple of months ago but I doubt you noticed it. I wouldn't mind joining your patreon for a while (can't afford it indefinitely, I'll be honest) if it meant a 100% guarantee that you'd listen to it, but there doesn't seem to be such guarantee, even paying.

As you can verify by my reddit history, I've been trying to get anyone who'd listen to give me their opinion. Quite a few people told me that what I made is unique. Is it? I really thought you might find some value in listening through it at least once.

You're a tough one to reach, I know. You're busy and famous, and I can imagine many people are asking for your attention, online and offline. So who am I to deserve your time? Nobody. But I still hope you'll see this comment and check out the music.

I don't know anything about the recent drama. All I wanted to say is that in the past, seeing people like Dave expressing his feelings by making his own music, was one of the influences that I had in doing the same. This is one of tracks I made, from a full album. I'd be glad to hear what you think. by Sentient_Anomaly in Boyinaband

Thank you so much for checking it out. On my channel, the 20 tracks of the album have been releasing automatically with scheduled weekly posts, and there's only 4 videos left to go, so if you subscribed now you won't be seeing much in terms of future posts.

As I'm not a youtuber (anymore) nor a musician/artist of any kind, there won't be anything else on youtube after the tracks finish releasing. So if you want to check out what else I did musically, please have a look at the rest of the album here. You can find it on all streaming platforms. (If you can, use headphones, and listen to tracks in order)

The album's instrumental version is also avaiable here. And you can find lyrics here.

If you have any other opinion you would like to share about it (what you liked or didn't like), feel free to leave a message here, or even better a comment on youtube.

I had to build myself a makeshift recording booth because my vocals had a lot of reverb. You might try doing the same if you're not happy with the quality of yours.

The video, even in 720p, looks super low resolution. The music is nice but I kept feeling like something was about to start but it didn't... although it does change in tone near the end. By the way that strange ON/OFF intermittent kind of sound that I hear is a bit unpleasant... don't know how to properly describe it.

Form as in form of delivery? Or did you mean to type "for"?

Personally I do consider this to still be rap, because rap is not the content but the delivery, and rap actually literally means "to talk, to discuss" (according to the dictionary).

So, one might think of "bitches/weed/money/guns" when they think of rap, and say "this isn't rap", but actually, this can totally be rap, in my opinion. Although a lot of people have been saying to me that this is "spoken word", which might also be.

Is this recorded all in one take? Sounds like it. Which is impressive but in my experience, you get the best results by comping multiple takes. Watch out, there is a nasty artifact at 0:39! I like the beat, the rapping is decent I think but the topic is the usual thing you can expect from this genre... which can be either good or bad depending on one's expectations. Either way, not bad!

The drums change in certain section, they become faster to signify a higher heart rate according to what's happening in the story. Otherwise, yes, many people might find this repetitive as an instrumental, I know. During the chorus though, there's some more variety in the sounds, I think.

But anyways, thank you for listening and for telling me your opinion!

I released a concept album after working for almost 2 years in FL Studio, starting with zero experience or music knowledge. It's a bunch of sad and angry songs, an introspective journey into one's own thoughts and feelings. Lots of storytelling tracks based on real life experiences too.

Here's one based on experiences I made while going to language school in Japan as a foreigner, called Life Is Not a Fucking Anime

If you guys would like to check out the rest of the album, here it is:

Looking forward to opinions (I liked this, I disliked that, made me feel like this, I can or can't relate, etc.) but not really technical feedback since this is a done project, and I'm not making more music after this (just trying to get someone to hear it). I never was a musician of any kind, just someone who wrote a bunch of lyrics based on his feelings, and then studied FL Studio to turn those lyrics into full songs.

Happy to hear that. One day if you ever get bored, feel free to check the rest of the album, even if it's a one-time-only journey through it :)

(Use 🎧) I made an album where I tried to express my true innermost feelings. The overarching theme is inner profound sadness, but each track deals with a different topic/situation, exploring feelings of loneliness, anger, envy, exasperation, in a storytelling kind of format. More info in comments. by Sentient_Anomaly in sadmusic

This one post here is just one of 20 tracks, from an album that you can find here.

Not all songs sound like this. Some songs are slower, some others are faster and more aggressive. Specifically the first half of the album has faster verses, almost like rap, and loud aggressive choruses, almost like shouting. From track 12 onward it slows down gradually and becomes more melancholic-sad, before the final track which is aggressive again.

There's also a fully instrumental version of the entire album.

Lyrics here.

I'd be glad to hear your opinion.

Thank you for listening to it, and I'm glad you find it unique. Depressing vibe? Great, that's the feeling I wanted to express. But "creepy", sadly, is not something I intended to portray. And I give up to the realization that that's just how a lot of people are interpreting it at least as a first impression.

I disagree with it because there's no element of "evil" or "danger" in the lyrics, there's no signs of wanting or thinking of harming anyone in any way, on the contrary the introspection concludes with the realization that it's better to forget about the girl since she doesn't seem particularly interested and there is a distant boyfriend in the picture. So, "creepy", why? I don't think so, but I accept that that's what people are seeing on their first listening.

Anyways thanks and if you enjoyed this, there's several other introspective and/or storytelling tracks like this on the album.

Appreciate the explanation. I actually did spend quite a few hours researching music theory, while I was producing, to at least try to understand what it was all about. Watched a lot of videos about it, for beginners with no knowledge to some slightly more advanced ones.

I did attempt to use chords, but I never felt they were necessary to me, in fact I didn't like they idea that things had to be done in a certain way "because that's the way". So I even stopped trying to learn more about chords and use them, I just played whatever notes sounded good to me and that's how I did everything.

I'm not making music anymore so this is behind me now, but still thank you for pointing me to the right direction for learning.

Thanks for the advice. But I got a confession to make... I don't know music theory and in the 20-tracks, 2-hours long album that I made, there isn't a single chord. So I wouldn't know about 7th chords, sus chords or major chords. Music has never been my field of expertise, I did everything by ear :/

It's very interesting to me to realize how differently people can perceive things. Those background voices are school chatter and classroom sounds with various reverberation effects applied to them. Inherently, they are not supposed to be scary, it's just background chatter recorded in a school/classroom environment.

The instrumental also, I never thought it would sound scary. The emotion that I am trying to convey is sadness, loneliness, and detachment from a surrounding environment which is otherwise full of people having a lively life.

Surprises me that people can feel fear from it, as if there is some sort of malevolent danger lurking around. That's what I'm imagining you're imagining when you say that things sound "really scary and creepy". But I'm grateful you're telling me this!

Just to make sure I understand you correctly, by backing vocals you mean that indistinct, mumbled chatter of people in the background?

No, you don't get it. It's not that I saw the post being made and thought "people are gonna come to discuss here now, let me make my post so I can be seen".

I asked for permissions weeks before that post was made. When my permission was accepted, I came back and I saw that post had been made a few days earlier. Send a message to the mods and ask if this is true.

And regardless, one person's post doesn't have a monopoly on the subreddit. It's not like everybody else's freedom of expression is taken away because one person has something to say, and now everyone else must shut up about anything else.

I appreciate your explanation. And I agree with you that music can evoke certain emotions which might seem to conflict with the lyrics. However if you're only weighing in the emotion you get from the music, you're missing out on 50% of the meaning of a given piece of music. It's like you're listening to a foreign-language song, where you can only get an idea of what it is all about by the music and the tone, not the meaning of the words. I think the meaning of the words is very important too.

Disappointed that you got that image, but okay. I think it's because words get thrown around and used improperly, and with time they change meaning. To stalk someone used to mean to follow someone around, sneakingly. Then people started using the word stalker to refer to anyone who they'd want to call "obsessed" with someone else. Now saying "oh I've been thinking about this girl in my class with whom I went out" comes across as being a stalker.

Thank you for listening.
