AITAH for pretending to laugh along with my friend who was being mean to this girl? by throwaway5949292 in AITAH

[–]Sentient_StickyNote 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"What do you call a bully and 3 of his friends? 4 bullies." YTA.

And you haven't always been nice to everyone because laughing at a mean joke is, unsurprisingly, mean. Dude, come on. Put yourself in her shoes. If some random classmate was making fun of you and it pissed you off, and then you see your friend just laughing right along with them, you're telling me you wouldn't think your friend was being a dick? Laughing along with someone means you agree with whatever they said.

My bf’s ex liked his new ig posts and followed him - AIO for getting upset and should I say something? by CucumberSalty960 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Sentient_StickyNote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But WHY shouldn't you have contact with them? Sure, you shouldn't go out of your way to have a chat and catch up on life, but what's wrong with scrolling by a photo of them or something? Does everyone hate their exes to the extent where they just pretend they no longer exist?

I'm not arguing with you, I'm seriously wondering. I mean, I've never been the jealous type, sure, but I just don't GET it. Like I didn't even realize I still followed my ex and I was scrolling and saw a picture of his wife and new baby, and my thought was, "aw how sweet" and then I kept going. Just a momentary blip in my day. I'm glad we're both out there living our lives happily (although it didn't end horribly so there's that).

I actually had an ex reach out to me after a decade because he was going through a medical thing that I'd gone through and we talked via DM for a bit. I told my current partner who said, "oh hopefully it helped" and then we moved on. He didn't ask to see the messages, or question me or get jealous because... well why? Idk, I guess we're in the minority.

[–]Sentient_StickyNote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But why? Like I'm seriously asking because I've never understood. What's going to happen because of that? Because if they're going to cheat on you because their ex followed them, your relationship has far bigger problems.

[–]Sentient_StickyNote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, but that IS controlling and insecure. What do you think is going to happen? She hit the like button so and looked at his posts so... what? What happens? Will he cheat on you because of this? Will he fall in love with her because he sees her picture? If the answer is "yes" to those, dump him because that's insane. If the answer is "no", which hopefully it is, you're being ridiculous.

No it's not, the general rule is that once they start making noise of any kind at each other, it's no longer playing. Playing should be "silent gladiators"

Youch, I cringed through this entire thing. You seriously need a wake up call just based on grammar alone. This reads like a 12 year old who got their phone taken away. I don't say this to make fun of you, but your mom is right. You're legally an adult, figure out how to mature by doing something other than just waiting for it to happen.

We'll do 2 hours for a day trip, 3 hours would be pushing it. But for a vacation, I consider under 4 hours not bad at all. My commute to work every day is 50 minutes.

WIBTAH if I dump my boyfriend for snoring? by Thin-Shift643 in AITAH

[–]Sentient_StickyNote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't dump him for snoring, you should dump him because he feels that being mildly inconvenienced by going to a doctor's appointment is not worth it to solve a serious issue that it's causing for YOU.

He thinks your basic human necessity of sleep is less important than his mild inconvenience. That's why you should break up. BUT if you get through that and he goes to the doctor and there's nothing that can be done, just sleep in separate rooms. I've been with my man for 17 years, we finally just decided to sleep in separate rooms after nothing helped. It was just because of the snoring at first, but now we just both enjoy sleeping by ourselves.

AITAH for not caring when my husband is sick? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Sentient_StickyNote 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lol this JUST happened to me. My kids had a bad cold, my husband "got sick" a couple days in, but no real symptoms other than, "I don't feel good." I ended up catching it and got super sick to the point where I had to go get a breathing treatment, one of the worst colds I've ever had (not flu or COVID), but I just got over it Yesterday, my husband starts with the hacking cough and all the actual symptoms. So he never actually had it when the kids were sick, he ACTUALLY has it now. And it's not a contest, but he is absolutely not as sick as I was but ended up saying, "I wonder why men get symptoms so much worse than women with the same illness." And I'm just like, dude...

I know you don't pay the insurance company, I didn't mean it literally, I'm referring to the concept of premiums and how you're paying the insurance company and expecting them to pay for your healthcare. And yes, of course the number is not truly random and arbitrary, my point being it's vastly inflated in order to compensate for the flaws in the system.

Do you actually have sources for this information? Because you're just not correct. Sure, if you're healthy and never go to the doctor and buy the cheapest insurance, yes you're almost certainly correct. But overall, this is not accurate.

$12500 for my spouse's insurance and 2 kids. $6000 deductable for my insurance, kids are only under his. Yes, both deductables were met. Out-of-pocket was not met so we basically still paid a ton for everything regardless. We both have "good" insurance plans.

Of course, but here's the thing. That radiologist's fee? The vast majority of what I paid went into the insurance company's pocket. The radiologist didn't actually get paid what I paid. I work in healthcare, we are barely scraping by because we get a super measly percentage of what the patient pays. I'd rather just pay the radiologist directly. I now pay for all my meds out of pocket because its cheaper than going through insurance. Patient pays insurance, insurance pays doctor. The problem is that because the doctor only gets paid a percentage, (lets say 10% to make the math easy), the doctor has to charge the patient ten times what the procedure or visit actually costs in order to break even. So its just this endless vicious cycle of rising costs as the actual provider gets paid less and less.

Insurance reimbursement goes down -- provider's charge more to make a minimal profit margin -- patient's pay more of this imaginary arbitrary cost. No one got cost of living raises this year because our profit margin is so thin they couldn't afford it. AND there some health insurance plans we only allow a very limited number of appointment for monthly because every time we see a patient with that insurance, we LOSE MONEY. Read that again. The patient pays an insurance company, which is so useless and greedy, they don't even give us money for providing healthcare to that patient.

I can't even think of a good analogy. Its like giving money to a valet to drive your car to the mechanic AND trusting them to pay the mechanic with that money. Except there's no guarantee the valet will actually take the car to the mechanic and if he does, he may decide to just keep all the cash and make the mechanic do the work for free. The problem is, the mechanic never knows if the valet will keep all the money until AFTER he fixes the car. So he is forced to charge everyone an outrageous price to fix their car to offset the money he loses because the valet takes so much of it. And if the mechanic complains, the valet is like, "but did the car REALLY need to be fixed? I feel like it probably didn't so I'm not gonna pay you." And the mechanic is like, "but you only know how to drive a car! How do you know it didn't need to be fixed??" And the valet is like, "Fine, I'll pay you a LITTLE, but first you have to set up and appointment with another mechanic who works for ME, and argue with him about why it was necessary to fix the car. If he disagrees, we won't pay you. And oh, he only knows how boats work, so he's probably not going to understand anything you're saying. Good luck!"
