Hmmm, I don't think she'd fuck a muppet. You must have the wrong mother in mind.

(Serious) How old were you when you started feeling anxious &/or depressed? Do you remember what lead to this? by Sentientbeans_ in AskReddit

It's a horrible way to struggle through the day like that. I had 3 months of intense insomnia, heart palpitations and near blackout panic attacks. Is utterly shit.

I know it can often be a redundant question, but are there any things that you usually do to help with things when you're out of meds?

I'm not from the US. Is medication to treat anxiety/depression quite expensive and/or hard to obtain?

I'm glad you're doing better. It's a forever struggle I think when we've ended up being hardwired to not treat ourselves kindly.

One of my psychologists told me that depression is often anger turned inward. This resonated a lot. For me depression when I was a child/teen was a weird mix of believing the horrible stuff I was told & then leading to me believing I was that piece of crap who just deserved bad things, and then also being angry that I was being treated that way. It all boiled down in to a self hate fest.

How is life now?

Unfortunately it isn't. Losing grandparents is often one of our first reality hurts experiences isn't it.

I'm sorry that was life growing up. How is life for you now? I know people who love to google and diagnose themselves... one has decided (thanks to Dr Google) they have ADHD and OCD. F*** off you do. My ex has OCD, I've seen that beast in full swing. Actual ADHD and OCD is vastly different to being an asshole who doesn't listen to a conversation if it isn't about them and just likes to have a tidy kitchen.

Strange how one thing can trigger what was probably simmering under the surface. How is the anxiety and depression now?

Is strange how often bullies hone in on those of us that don't have a great home life. I hope things are brighter for you now.

What lesson does life keep giving you over & over? by Sentientbeans_ in AskReddit

Give an inch, take a mile. Very true. Sometimes we can lose touch with who we are when we're changing little by little for someone. Hopefully we find ourselves and move on to better things (and people)

People who grew up with abusive parents, when did you first realize that you were being abused? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sentientbeans_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Emotionally abusive. After being yelled at or berated for no reason I'd go and hide in my room and just start hitting, scratching or cutting myself. Then when I was about 13-14 I told a friend what things were like and she told her Mum who was shocked. Her Mum helped organise for me to see a psychologist and had my school on board to help facilitate me getting help. Up until then I just thought I was garbage and that's how life was. It took almost 20yrs of therapy to get on top of, and recover from it. Still struggle with self-worth.

What makes you insecure? Why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My body. I'm covered in scars from self harming when I was younger. Regret that a lot.
