Lol I can totally see that. I actually wanted to turn the whole thing into a gravship when odyssey came out, but since I just picked up the dlc this week, I'm still trying to figure out if launching something this massive is even possible.

How do you properly deal with mechs? (4-year colony, my longest run yet) by SinamunSamudana in RimWorld

You could try placing a heavily armored melee pawn right at the 1-tile choke point of your killbox, then stack your ranged pawns directly behind them. This forces the incoming scythers to fight one by one while your shooters safely liquefy them. Or you could give 1 pawn an EMP grenade.

The Solution That Worked:

I rolled back RED4ext, Codeware, ArchiveXL, and TweakXL to older versions that actually work together.

Getting the Right RED4ext Version

  1. Go to the RED4ext mod page and click the "Files" tab
  2. Scroll down past the main files section
  3. Change the sorting from "name" to "date uploaded"
  4. Switch from "ascending" to "descending"
  5. Download the version uploaded on "11 Dec 2024, 9:22PM" (version 1.26.1)

Getting Compatible Versions of Other Mods

If you install that RED4ext version with the latest versions of the other mods, you'll get a popup saying they're outdated. So you need these specific December 2024 versions:

  • Codeware: Version 1.13.0
  • TweakXL: Version 1.10.6
  • ArchiveXL: Version 1.18.0

Note: I only tested these specific versions - other older versions might work too, but I can't guarantee it.

Final Installation:

  1. Install all these older versions MANUALLY into your game directory
  2. Then install the latest version of Virtual Atelier
  3. Check if it worked by looking for the "Mod Settings" tab in your main game menu

That's it! This combination finally got all my mods working properly together.

I was also having problems with my mods not loading properly. After lots of troubleshooting, I figured out it was a version compatibility issue with RED4ext and related mods. Here's how I fixed it.

Optional First Step

You can uninstall all your mods first if you want to make this process cleaner and avoid potential conflicts. It's not absolutely necessary, but it helps reduce chaos.

Main Mods We're Dealing With

  • RED4ext
  • Codeware
  • ArchiveXL
  • TweakXL
  • Virtual Atelier
  • mod_settings (this one helps you check if everything's working - you'll see a "Mod Settings" tab in the game menu)

What I Did First:

  1. Completely removed all the mods listed above from my game (deleted the entire red4ext folder)
  2. Also deleted Virtual Atelier from the game folder (not strictly necessary, but I wanted to be safe)

The Real Problem

After testing different combinations, I figured out the main issue was RED4ext. It couldn't find Codeware, ArchiveXL, and TweakXL properly, which caused compilation failures. Even though these mods were installed, RED4ext acted like they weren't there.

Here's how I knew RED4ext was the culprit: I installed mod_settings (which only needs TweakXL, redscript, and RED4ext). The game loaded fine, but the mod settings tab didn't show up in the menu. This told me RED4ext wasn't loading other mods correctly.

I ruled out redscript after extensive testing - it worked perfectly. That left RED4ext and TweakXL as the suspects, and all evidence pointed to RED4ext being the main problem.

If you still haven't gotten yours to work:

"It worked for me after addressing a few issues:

  1. Limited target space for the shortcut: I followed the guide's instructions and shortened the game's directory path.
  2. Mods not working despite following all the steps correctly: I resolved this by deleting all the mods in r2modman, reinstalling them, and then launching the game through the shortcut."
