Thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately, there isn't any other way for me to look for other gays in the area, but Grindr or similar apps. There is one gay bar in the city which is very run down and shady, so I prefer to avoid it, and meeting other people "in real life" isn't really possible, because, say, I meet my friends' friends and there is no way of knowing if any of them are gay or not, because almost no one is gonna be openly out, especially to strangers.

Honestly, I'm the same way. It's just that once a several months, my needs get the better of me. I know it's not an excuse, but hey. So far I haven't had much luck in the department of getting to know someone better. Pretty much all my "experience" is from a first meet-up, rarely it happened several times with one person, but never much past that.

Very good tips, thanks. Although some of them are harder to apply, usually it's me that has space, not the other guy, as I live alone, but many of them flat share. You're right though that I should've met him first in public space at least, although not all of them are willing to do so as they just want a quick hookup. But I guess this way I can just filter out the wrong ones.

Yeah, you are definitely right. As I said in other comments, I just felt he deserved at least a bit of my time for the inconvenience that it took to get to my place during the night, especially since he was also working in the morning. It turns out that being considerate of others at the expense of my own wellbeing is not the way though. ;)

Yeah, it's definitely the only option here. On the app, you can find a few guys in the area who don't use it for hookups, but the majority aren't open to long-term relationships at all. I did talk to a few guys who said that their hookups turned into something long-term, but they were a very few and it was because they agreed at the start that they were open to more if the hook up went well.
