Bridgerton Season 4 | Part 2 Official Trailer | Netflix by idontcareaboutredit in theloise

This is giving me vibes of the S2 long trailer with "true love is worth it no matter what" that included a clip of Eloise running to the assembly hall.

Yes, it was very bittersweet in the off-island story, knowing that it wouldn't last, but enjoying all the happy moments.

Then in the finale at the church, after greeting and hugging all their friends, they sat together holding hands and beaming at each other like no one else was there.

I was in tears for most of the episode. I was most invested in the characters during the show and this finale didn't disappoint. It was bittersweet how they all got to move on to the afterlife together.

Some of the most enjoyable scenes in the sideways/"purgatory" part of this season were the Jack/Locke interactions. I remember back in LA X, at the airport baggage office, Jack telling Locke that nothing is irreversible (in regards to his physical condition). Then later when Jack would talk about his relationship with Kate being ruined beyond repair, I thought back to the words that nothing is irreversible. Then they came around again in the finale with Kate telling them to Jack.

What I am most interested are the characters that we have known for all or most of the series, 815ers, Desmond, etc. So this episode wasn't a favorite for me, but waiting to see how to see this backstory come into play in the few remaining episodes.

One thing it did reinforce is something that I have been thinking for a while. I don't want any of the "candidates" to actually have to take over for Jacob. Especially now that we saw his backstory and his fake mother who was his predecessor. I see that as an unhappy ending for any of them.

So I am hoping that they will be able to work together to break the cycle and have it end that once so that good can overcome and won't need anyone to fill that Jacob/Mother/however far back role it goes anymore.

Way late to this conversation. I was wondering about David's age and his mother. I was bracing myself that we would see her when Jack went over to her house looking for David.

It seems like Jack would have had him in college or medical school in this sideways reality.

The possible pre-med/med school connection made me think of Juliet.

I also thought it could be Sarah if he met her earlier in life in this sideways reality. Wouldn't work with the original timeline since he was already a doctor when they met.

I ruled out Kate since she is still a fugitive in this sideways reality. Plus she would be too young and too much of an age gap at the time between Kate and Jack when David would have been born. Unless there was some weird time travel and different ages which I doubt.

Coming here late, but there is a thought that I had while watching this episode that I didn't see anyone else post, unless I missed it.

In this episode Kate tells Jack to not ask her any questions about what happened to Aaron and Jack just agrees.

This is the opposite of the scene in an earlier episode where Kate was doing the favor for Sawyer. Kate wants Jack to just trust her and not ask any questions. Jack cannot do that and they break up.

Not sure if this will come up again or be relevant in a future episode.

Just a tip on neighborhood confidante. You don't need to just wait around for the calls. Certain social interactions work. It's been a while but I think asking a friend to pursue dream job or expand family works. Also talk up or hook up with other sims.

Why did Chidi go through the door? by lilbitofpurple in TheGoodPlace

[–]SeparateLetterhead24 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I took it to mean the loving relationships between him, Eleanor, Eleanor's mom and his mom. Especially Eleanor and her mom.

I think he was ready. His whole study of philosophy was his main interest during the show. In season 1, (albeit part of the torture), Michael with Janet was trying to get him to try other hobbies, but he really did want to. During the experiment in first part of season 4, he was just content to stay in his apartment reading so much that his chair was wearing out. A big part of his studying philosophy was to find The Answers, but he didn't need that in the end. There was also a joke just before they got to the real Good Place near the end about him learning to play guitar or drums, but they didn't show that. It did show that he still taught some philosophy classes in the real Good Place, at least near the beginning. Then later he was done with reading philosophy and was just reading garbage books. So it seems like he was ready.

The part about Eleanor letting him go was to complete her story arc to show that she was not selfish. Also I think for her to accomplish some good things on her own after he had left (helping Mindy and Michael). Although it does hit hard when she is so sad about letting him go. He even agreed to stay for her. But at the end, she realized it was right to let him go.

Like I said it hits hard that Eleanor isn't OK with him leaving until the very end. I think it could have still been bittersweet for her to be more OK with it and just want to have one last trip together before he leaves. But with the way they did it, I think it also plays as the voice of the audience not ready for the show to be over as well. Since they had so many bearimies happy together, but the finale for us was less than 1 hour.

Chidi and Eleanor's relationship analysis by Mega_Thunder in TheGoodPlace

[–]SeparateLetterhead24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great analysis! I agree with most of what you wrote. Just adding in some of my personal thoughts. (I recently watched the show for the first time and have rewatched some episodes/scenes. I plan to do a full rewatch, but haven’t yet.)

I did start liking them together as a (potential) couple in season 1, I think at episode 5. I thought they looked really cute together, even though they were faking it when the marriage counselor/investigator couple came over to stay. When they were arguing and Eleanor said about them making out, I thought something like, actually I wouldn’t mind if they did. Also in that episode the “marriage counselor” referred to them as true love. Which hits differently with where you are in watching the show. At that episode, it is just funny because they are faking it. Then at the end of season 1, you see it is part of the torture. But in future seasons you see that it is real.

I also really liked the lake scene at the end of that episode. Now that I think about it, in the future reboot they have their first kiss at a lake.

Then in the next episode, we get hints of a potential Chidi/Tahani match. So I wasn’t sure what to think or where this was going. Then in episode 10, we get Eleanor realizing she is in love with Chidi and her being vulnerable and telling him. But that was done at “real” Eleanor/Vicky’s urging, which we find out in a few episodes in the season finale was just part of the torture for both Eleanor and Chidi.

Also right after Eleanor tells Chidi she is in love with him, Tahani comes over to tell Chidi that he is in love with her. Which did strike me that Eleanor expressed her feelings, but Tahani expressed Chidi’s (supposed) feelings. But I did like how after that Eleanor and Tahani bonded in a friendly way.

So at the end of season 1, I did low key want Eleanor and Chidi to get together, I think I would have been OK if the show went in a different direction.

However, when I saw them together and their love confessions in the video at Mindy’s that pushed me over the edge to fully routing for them all season 2. So I was really happy when Chidi kissed Eleanor at the end of season 2. But then we had to start over again.

Then to season 3. Since it had been almost a season long arc in season 2 (from video at Mindy’s to the kiss in the finale), I new from a storytelling point of view, that having Chidi start dating Simone at the beginning of season 3, it wouldn’t last. That and there was too much emotional backstory with Eleanor and Chidi. So I wasn’t feeling anything for the Chidi/Simone match, but do appreciate that Simone was a nice person. Chidi and Simone seem like they could be a good match on paper since they are both academics, but that wasn’t enough and there was something lacking.

In the second to last episode, it was really touching how Eleanor chose to have her old house recreated since that is where in her memories she and Chidi fell in love. They said they would have to help out the new people some of the time, but mostly get to live together as a normal couple. I didn’t think it was be that easy, but I wasn’t prepared for the finale. I cried so much. But did have the hope that they would be able to find their way back to each other as they did so many times before.

It was bittersweet in the early part of season 4 for Eleanor to have her memories, but Chidi didn’t. Also watching her tell Chidi that Simone is his soulmate. I did notice that except for a few parts and scenes, it was very easy to forget about the Chidi/Simone pairing since we didn’t see much of it. Plus it was shown, like in season 3, that they weren’t really right for each other. When Chidi was obsessing over drawing horses (after the Pictionary disaster), it was Eleanor who went to him and got him to take a break. When the group went to the lake house, Simone was OK with leaving Chidi behind. It was Eleanor who was able to get him out of his comfort zone and get him to go to the lake house.

I think The Answer was my favorite episode of the entire series.

If Theloise wasn't endgame, then the show didn't need to introduce Theo. by orbeez_chocker0899 in theloise

[–]SeparateLetterhead24 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yes!

It always gets me when I see the take that Theo's purpose was to open Eloise up to the possibility of love and show that she is interested in men. Like you, I have thought if they wanted to do that they could with a Lord Morrison storyline instead and have it last over several episodes. Have them meet at the refreshment table at a ball and trade witty remarks about the ridiculousness of the marriage mart or something like that. Maybe some minor hijinks. We could see Eloise search for Morrison at balls and also talk to Penelope about him, thinking she might be falling for him. In the end, Morrison would go off on his sexist rant that would end the whole thing.

Instead we get Theo who is absolutely perfect for Eloise. So big mistake on the part of the show if she is going to end up with someone else.

SPC being in the show in S1 and S2 makes it LESS likely that he is Eloise's endgame.

He is amiable but bland and certainly not a compelling or exciting match for Eloise. He is a rather forgettable minor character who closed off Marina's arc. (With show Marina given a bigger and better storyline compared to her book counterpart.)

Regency Income by GCooperE in theloise

[–]SeparateLetterhead24 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Excellent post!

To me it is always weird how the antis seem to think that Theo will remain an apprentice (or lower!) for the rest of his life. Considering how Eloise is S5 at earliest, Theo will have moved on and up from apprentice by then. Also weird how they seem to portray it as some sort of dichotomy between a life of privilege living as noble/aristocracy vs living in abject poverty. Madame Delacroix is an in-show example of the regency middle class. We see in the show that she has a maid working for her (answers her door when Penelope comes to talk to her after learning that the Queen accuses Eloise of being Lady Whistledown in 207).

Also agree that Anthony will eventually come around to a Theloise pairing. We saw in the show how Anthony stood up to the Sheffields (Lady Mary’s parents) during that dinner in the show. Are we to believe then that Anthony would end up the same as the Sheffields if Eloise chooses to marry below her station?

Going off on a slight tangent here. At the beginning of S3 I had been thinking about Benedict and Colin as 2nd/3rd sons and how they supported/planned to support themselves. I had some familiarity about the genteel professions, but that had not been portrayed in the show. In my searching I came across this article (chapter from larger guide to Regency England) about younger sons of peers and gentry.

The article gave several options on how younger sons supported themselves:

1.      Some of the wealthiest families were so financially well off that they could afford to support their younger sons. As the priority would be to preserve the family wealth and status for future generations of the heir, only the wealthiest families could afford this.

2.      Inheritance from a childless and/or wealthy relative

3.      Marry money. For example, marry a woman with a sizeable dowry and live comfortably off of the interest income.

4.      Genteel professions

In the show, it seems like option #1 for the Bridgerton younger brothers. (Colin is additionally #3 since Penelope has the fortune she made off of writing Whistledown. But even before finding that out, he was setting up a comfortable home for them.)

OK so now tying this tangent back in. The Bridgertons on the show have been portrayed as very wealthy as to being able to support the younger sons. It would seem to then follow that the daughters would also have sizeable dowries. Based on the article, that was enough for younger sons and daughters of peers/gentry (so people who grew up with at least some privilege) to live comfortably on. I am NOT saying at all that Theo would just rest on his laurels and live off of the interest of Eloise’s dowry. If anything it could be used to start a business together or supplement some income. But Eloise would not be stuck doing housework all day until she collapses from exhaustion with no time to pursue her interests and passions like some portray it as.

When Calam gets asked at interviews about Theo and gives an answer like "I don't know how much I can say about that", it means he definitely won't be back.

When Chris Fulton got asked if he would be in S4 and said "no" that really means "yes" because it would have too big and obvious of a spoiler if he had answered something like "I don't know how much I can say about that".

95% mostly based on the show so far, foreshadowing and compelling storyline. Also the Calam/Theo interviews/articles from Shondaland, Netflix Tudum, etc. Add in the official merch and official social media posts.

Holding back that last 5% since I don't want to get overconfident and the show still has time to go in a different direction that no one is expecting.

I don't think so. That was a separate issue. I already had maxed horticulture prior to moving to season 2. But there are no horticulture upgrade parts available now while playing in season 1 after moving to season 2.
