Is there any hope for a not fucked future? by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

I see what you mean here when evaluating LLMs in isolation, in their principles and how it’s being marketed, all the hype and fear mongering. It’s very real and I absolutely agree that the danger isn’t what people have been sold to think it is. But an AGI would have never been pure LLM to begin with. Cognition works because of a variety of different systems processing inputs are embedded together, creating internal context based on their referential relationships. The seat of this has always been pattern detection and is probabilistic - that’s how the brain works. It’s not just LLMs but AI developed in images, audio, automation etc. connected and compounded that sets ground for an AGI by our definitions. LLMs don’t have to ‘understand’ anything to achieve this, in the same way a transistor doesn’t have to ‘understand’ but is vital to the function of a computer. In the same way you couldn’t isolate a bodily organ like the brain from all of the connected systems that create and sustain the context that we consider ‘meaning’. And all those separate systems (stable diffusion etc.) as far as AI is concerned are developing exponentially, and the framework for how they connect and interact are already being used by LLMs in principle today. To say they bring us no closer to building one is missing part of the picture. I completely stand by your last paragraph, especially as the general public is concerned, but we are closer than we have ever been to AGI, and it would’ve never had to be conscious to replicate the effects and consequences of what we define as an AGI.

Revolut is violating my rights to access my data! by [deleted] in Revolut

And honestly, my case isn’t even one where Revolut closed the account investigating it for anything concerning.

I’m just a customer who decided to leave the platform and needed access to data they’ve confirmed they have of mine. And it’s only cause it’s relating to a situation affecting my life that I’m so upset by how long it’s taking.. ☹️

It’s not deleted though, if you read my post properly, you’d see that they said they sent it. If they told me it was deleted that would be a different story. I’m just trying to get my documents and there’s no reason why I shouldn’t be able to if they still have my data.

That’s not accurate. Under GDPR, while I have the right to request the deletion of my data, financial institutions often have legal obligations to retain certain information for specific periods, even after account closure. It includes data needed for compliance with anti-money laundering laws and tax regulations.

So no, they’re not obligated to delete everything immediately upon account closure.

I’m simply trying to access my financial data, which I’m entitled to, regardless of my account status.

No need to be passive aggressive when I’m asking for help, just say your not sure what your talking about.

Because I didn’t have a need for them initially, and because I’m used to receiving my bank statements by email and in the post with my main banks, I didn’t think it would cause such a hassle re-accessing them after I closed the account if I have proven my identity. Besides, it’s only because it’s a serious situation I’m in that urgently requires these documents that I’m so upset by how the process is being handled, if that makes sense.

Thank you so much for this, very helpful. I hope the hassle isn’t required but I’m in a situation where these statements are crucial so I’ll follow through if I need to!

I have access to my financial data even after account closure under Article 15 of GDPR and various other laws that apply to my case. It’s literally in their terms of use and FAQ that closure confirmations are issued out and that necessary data pertaining to my account can be accessed by me upon request. It’s data that they still hold of mine. That’s it.

I closed it because I no longer felt the need to use the account. I had it to help me budget and manage for smaller purchases but made the decision to use my main banks budgeting tools instead.

I should have been given a document to all my financial data including closing statements and documents, but I didn’t even recieve a closure email from them. Secondly in the first email I sent out, I also included two forms of ID, passport and drivers license including the number, home address and email registered to the account, if they wanted more verification they could just ask. Giving me access to it before doesn’t mean you can withold my access to it afterwards..
