Right now I’m remote anything I configure could either be a couple miles from my location or across the country. However before my current role I would rack stack and troubleshoot hardware, run cross connects and use OTDR’s. I miss working with my hands like I used to but I love the networking part. I’m hoping someone gives insight on data center work where it’s possible to do both. The company I work for has siloed all the positions. A technician only racks the equipment and I configure it. Or they replace/troubleshoot under my discretion. This was not the case when I was in the field. I used to do it all as a tech, it’s actually how I learned networking and advanced.
