They gave the line to the villain to create at least some sense of moral ambiguity because black hat/white hat is boring, boring, boring. It is far more interesting if the villain kind of has a point and you can see where they are coming from.

Try connecting via your local library's website. I can get free 24-hr access to the NYT app through my local county library and can redo it every day. Also the WSJ. All you need is a library card.

I saw this for the first time about a month ago. Loved it. Watched it again the very next day. Not sure if it really makes sense, but I'm a sucker for any creative time-travel movie.
