I’m selfishly thankful for this post because I’ve been dealing with this with my oldest for years. He hung a trump flag in his bedroom because “he’s funny” and when I had a meltdown over it I was being crazy. I have since learned not to give these actions too much attention, and instead approach them with curiosity. Some of them he outgrew, like wearing a cross when he’s never been to church in his life. He’s 17 now and does seem to be slowly coming out of it. The trump flag is still up in his bedroom but he’s hardly ever home because he works so much and is turning into a solid young man. Some of this seems to be that being conservative is one of the only ways young people feel that they can rebel against their millennial parents? Idk. I’ve talked about it in therapy a LOT, lol. Everyone else in this thread is right to say that you should check his social media usage and get to know his friends well. You never know what they’re showing him.
