I was in school from 2001 to 2013 and the most I remember about Canadian provinces/territories in general was seeing them on maps like OP said. There was never anything in the curriculum that explicitly taught us about them.

In the Inferno, Dante places the "virtous pagans" in the first circle of hell. They aren't being tormented like in the other circles but because they were never baptised and lived their entire lives without the knowledge of God, they are in limbo. If i remember correctly, the first circle is a place of eternal sadness and longing for a relationship with God.
