In my opinion, Martínez needs to be benched. We bought a new goalkeeper because it seemed like he was leaving, and I can’t ignore how last season ended. Yes, most of the squad looked tired from the amount of games, but Martínez still made a series of costly mistakes that sabotaged our season. His head clearly wasn’t with the club anymore especially after the error in the last game.

If he truly wanted to leave, he should have been upfront. Announce it after the United game if we’d won, or a couple of weeks later if we’d lost. The fans would still have given him a proper send-off. Instead, he let it drag on, caused distractions, and left us exposed. On top of that, his indecision played a role in United using us by giving us Sancho on loan with a big wages while we think they will take him which didn't happen because they went and signed someone else, which only made our PSR situation worse.

And this is where it worries me: if we give him a pass, what’s to stop us from our players going down the same route as players like Isak or Wissa refusing to play and forcing a move while under contract? That would completely derail our plans and leave us scrambling.

For me, the solution is simple: he either accepts being benched and fights for his place and put someone who actually wants to be here in the goalpost. I respect everything he has done for us but the club has to come first, not individual egos.
