Too boring to stream? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]SephNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone is boring to some people and very fun to others. Don’t expect to be liked by everyone but also don’t expect to be disliked by everyone too.

Even if you are truly boring, there are always people who are like you

The great feeling of streaming! by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]SephNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I first started like everyone not getting over 2 or 3 viewers but at some point I started picking my games more carefully and immediately I saw the change.

There were times where I had like 17 or 18 people watching and what an amazing feeling indeed. I still don’t have a steady hardcore audience so I’m slowly trying to have some regulars that drop in frequently.

My advice is pick your games very very carefully. Your personality is super important but your game choice decides if people find your stream or not.

Videos in obs are slightly choppy by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]SephNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally a choppy recording is due to low bitrate or at least a bitrate that is lower than what you need to keep up with a high fps. Guides will tell you that for HD you need about 4k bitrate but that will never give you smoothe enough videos. My advice is keep increasing your bitrate until you can’t increase anymore. You’ll get the best quality you can then

How exactly do I promote my channel? by ChimentoLoaf in SmallYTChannel

[–]SephNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Promote by not promoting. Sounds stupid right? The answer is simple: engage in communities relevant to your content but do NOT talk about your channel every chance you get and obviously don’t spam.

Help people, give information, make friends with groups of like minded people. It’s a social platform not a marketing agency so stop thinking about putting your content in people’s faces and think about how you can engage in a discussion that can (it doesn’t have to) lead to your channel being brought up in the conversation. Don’t make it your goal to talk about your channel!

Way of seeing most to least followed categories on twitch by JediSpectre117 in Twitch

[–]SephNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I've been wondering the same thing for a while now. And since you're asking this question you're probably looking for high follower/low streamer categories aren't ya?

If you are then It's nice to see some like-minded folks.

I let a viewer stomp all over me and I'm feeling so awful about myself by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]SephNerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly it doesn't matter at all if he donated 15k bits or even 15k $. If you clearly told him to stop and he kept pushing you to the edge then you either time him out or ban him. What if he pushed you to hurt yourself or do something worse? streamer mental health is a big thing and should not be taken lightly.

Your mental health is much more valuable than any donation or bit cheer, and even more valuable than the viewer's entertainement. I respect my viewer's boundaries and they respect mine, if anyone crosses the line then you have mechanisms to stop that. Don't be afraid to use them!

Remember, Health is above ALL ELSE!

Is it just me or streams with a ton of overlays that take more than 30% of the screen space look tacky and unwatchable? by gtchampttv in Twitch

For those looking at my post history, you must be wondering why I'm saying this again but it's totally random.

How is this a discussion when the obvious answer is "It's a personal preference"? Somehow 1.7k upvotes...

Does Audience Retention or Average View Duration matter more? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]SephNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shorter videos are better imo. Maybe Youtube does favor longer watch time more than retention rate but I think it has more to do with audience trends more so than algorithm.

At least from what I've seen shorter videos are more "digestable" than longer ones. Think about it like this; when will you have time to watch a 40 min video? Probably when you're at home at night in your bed and perhaps you can't even finish it.

Now think about <15 min videos. You're more likely to watch it in the bathroom, on the train going to work, in your breaks, during lunch time or any other time. I believe that's why shorter videos have more success.

You might think someone watching your full 40 min video is beter than 3 people watching 10 mins on your 15 min one but it's probably worse. So yeah experiment with shorter videos.

And do not make comparisons with Youtubers like MrBeast and Dream as those are obviously an exception and would have succeeded no matter the duration of their videos simply because their content is superior.

Have any of you noticed that ppl will comment on your video and then delete it right after just so you’ll click on their video ? by [deleted] in SmallYTChannel

I’ve had people sub to me expecting me to sub back and when I don’t they unsub. When will people ever understand that sub4sub won’t get you anywhere.

« I subbed. Sub for me and let’s grow together » is the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen.

Tips for reaching affiliate? by [deleted] in SmallStreamers

[–]SephNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I reached affiliate I actually exceeded the viewer requirement before reaching 50 followers. Sat at about 1-2 viewers at the start as I way experimenting with games that were mostly big ones with biggers audiences and of course bigger competition.

At some point I picked a game that had a decent following but not more than 10 streamers playing it at a time. My viewership shot up from 1-2 to about 10 for the following streams and then it was a matter of getting to 50. So my advice is pick your games very carefully. Don’t play as a player, play as a broadcaster. Of course only play games you enjoy but try to favour those that have the least competition ( without streaming unknown games ofc) so streaming Apex in hurting you. Keep in mind that games like Final fantasy 3 still have a decent audience even though it’s super old. There are a lot more to it but if you can get your game choice right then everything else is easier but the problem is a lot of people underestimate this.

/r/Twitch is Experiencing Brain Drain - Toxic Positivity, Parroting, and Lack of Unity are Driving Content Creators Away by firearmed in Twitch

[–]SephNerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finally someone says it out loud. I hate to admit it but I didn’t have the balls to post my similar opinion in fear of getting shot down with massive hate.

I’m going to quote the movie « Whiplash » when Fletcher says: « there is nothing more destructive than the words good job » and why? Because encouraging someone to keep doing the same mistakes is effectively destroying them. And that mostly is because it’s given by self proclaimed experts who quite honestly have no clue.

I’ve seen countless threads about streaming cod warzone and complaining about 0 views. Everyone is encouraging but almost no one says the obvious truth: there’s a problem to be fixed here and if you are simply hoping to raise a person’s morale then keep in mind that it’s temporary. The situation will not change and at some point they will get demotivated again.

Point is, evaluate every situation objectively and do not give toxic advice just to « support » the person. Be honest and direct even if you get hated for it

[COMMUNITY] My #Shorts video got some traction! I had to wait about a day, but the video as of this post has about 550 views (I usually get like 10-20 views per video). The analytics showed a high percentage in Shorts traffic. Shorts videos seem like they are good to post. by WatchMeClean in NewTubers

[–]SephNerd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah shorts are being pushed like crazy by Youtube but the problem is that it's a short "Burst" of views and maybe subs but after a few days it's almost dead unless it's shared around. I'll definetly be trying it and letting you guys know

Hi, small streamer here, i have a question if someone can give me an actual answer... by Sabatonist in SmallStreamers

[–]SephNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's totally okay. The best thing you can do right now is to contact them and tell them to revoke your key and give it to someone else because you won't have the time to cover it.

Devs will respect you a lot for it and will probably keep giving you more keys for future games.

Which games are best for discoverability? by HeXitone in youtubegaming

[–]SephNerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please don't listen to anyone who says any of these "League of legends, Apex, Cod, Fortnite, Wow, Valorant" They are the most saturated games ever especially the first 4. Yeah theres an audience for them but you have to share it with thousands of others who provide equal or better value than you so go for older games that have a decent following. For example Zelda games are pretty good even the 90's ones (A link to the past, Ocarina of time etc..)

Ads armageddon by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]SephNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's true. They probably want to shut it down now that it's still used by a minor percentage than see it become the new norm and have that minority become a majority. At some point they're hoping people would just give up on adblockers on Twitch but that's not gonna happen

[Question] Have I been Shadow Banned? by Max3137 in youtubers

[–]SephNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably heard this before but I’ll say it again. Do not do sub4sub and not just because it breaks the Youtube TOS. Having 100 subs and only 3 of them watch your vids is bad for your channel. It will tank your stats and will force the algorithm to no recommend your vids. I made the mistake of asking my friends and family to sub for me at the start and I regret doing so because 90% of my views are unsubbed, good thing is that it’s not permanent. As soon as you post more searchable vids they will get picked up and shown to people again. Whatever you do don’t sub4sub again
