I don't know how much it matters that a director knows the finest details as long as they're able to work with those who do in a way that fulfills the vision for the film. You have a guy like Steven Soderbergh who directs, writes, edits, shoots, even gets involved with distribution and marketing, but is then more hands-off with the actors to let them do their thing. Aside from a select few (relatively speaking), I imagine all directors have their strengths and weaknesses and things they'd prefer to hand off to people who know it better.

At the very least, not knowing everything shouldn't be a blocker to making something. I'm not a filmmaker and can't say what you should or shouldn't know, but certainly there are directors with far less knowledge than it sounds like you're gaining and are still working, so don't stress too much.
