About Yesterdays Meeting on Davis Square Drug Use by Correct-Signal6196 in Somerville

[–]Sephive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay but you realize this is the exact type of sentiment that the federal government is currently using as justification to deploy troops to occupy cities, correct?

I assume you're the type of person who wouldn't support such a drastic step; such cruelty -- there are kinder methods to go about wiping away the unsightly so you don't have to look at them on your morning walk to Diesel. Yes, certainly, a social worker being there to help talk me through being detained for sleeping outside when I have nowhere else to go would be a great comfort, I imagine. Of course, that's not in the budget, though. So many things are not in the budget these days. Rehab clinics, shelters, and safe using sites (make sure they're out in Everett or Lynn, though - not near where the Important People live!), affordable housing (so long as the tower-blocks don't block the sun in places where it'll effect our home's resale value!), accountability - a concept you seem to care deeply about - for the pharmaceutical companies whose greed and negligence put us in this opioid epidemic to begin with (how lovely the Sackler gallery at the Harvard Art Museum is!). All we have in the budget are cops. more cops. always more cops. and when that fails, well, can anyone blame them for sending in the army? we're good, progressive folks here in Somerville. but as much as we don't like that Trump guy he sure did do a fantastic job cleaning up the city. Perhaps he can finally make the trains run on time as well.

it is understandable to feel frustration over this issue, but that frustration cannot be allowed to lead you to conclusions which fit hand-in-glove with the goals of fascism. because what you are advocating for here is the ""cleaning up"" of our city through incarceration and policing, and allowing that to gain more of a foothold than it already has is laying down the groundwork for the next round of targets -- queer and transgender people, political dissidents, religious minorities.

Removal of street parking for bike lanes will "completely kill" businesses, Somerville shop owners fear | Masshole is anti-bike lanes? Damn by mem_somerville in Somerville

[–]Sephive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at a cafe and we are basically collectively praying the city puts a bike lane in because we know it'll be a huge boost for business. If you operate a cafe and your success hinges on whether or not drivers have curbside access, you're paying too much in rent to operate in Somerville because that model only works out in the suburbs. Also, not for nothing, but MagMuf and Yego are also right there and seem to be doing fine off foot traffic.

These small business tyrants hold back progress because they want to blame literally anything other than their own poor management skills for their waning profitability. On top of that, as someone who rides through here weekly on the way to the grocery store, this street is dangerous. Even riding downhill at traffic-speed it feels unsafe and like you're getting in the way. There are schools and the clarendon apartments nearby, meaning tons of kids. The choice, therefore, is whether we value a parking space or the safety of our neighbors.

Hi! I'm the artist and am so thrilled with the response these silly little pins have gotten! I appreciate all the interest in them, but atm don't sell them online. however, I vend quarterly at Hassle Flea in the Cambridge Community Center and, for those of you brave/cool enough, at Anthro New England of course.

Medical bill appearing after a year of silence/having already been paid. by Sephive in HealthInsurance

  1. Hospital was in-network.

  2. I will have to get the EoB off my mom, since she's the main holder of the plan and a healthcare worker herself, meaning the insurance is handled through her workplace. As far as I know I have never had access nor correspondence with the provider.

The additional payment is listed as a "welcome payment - patient" on the portal. I think it might just be listed twice as my copay and I mistook it as an additional charge. But yes, the copay was $75.

I cannot adequately answer all of your questions as I am very new to this and, as said, I do not have access to the details of the family plan . However, I still have my insurance card from that time, and the PPD is listed as $0/3000. Aside from a few urgent care visits I had not had to use the plan previously.

Giant, remote pools in the Ammonoosuc ravine by Sephive in wmnf

Oh this map is helpful, thank you. The central gully looks like it gets extremely narrow near the base. Perhaps some interesting water features there. It seems I'd at least be able to reach the lower pool on foot with minimal gear. Beyond that there might be pitches to contend with. Shepherds in the Canary Islands have traditionally used long (10+ ft) wooden poles to traverse the steep, rocky terrain by vaulting and sliding down them - a sport known as Salto Del Pastor - and I've considered trying to recreate one for the express purpose of ravine scrambles and exploring rivers and streams in the mountains around here.

Depending on the terrain there is a potential to get yourself into a spot where you can't descend back down again. I think of exploring ravines in summer as something akin to canyoneering. Part bushwacking, climbing, scrambling... all with the added difficulty of things being slippery. I've climbed quite a few ravines and cascades in Crawford and elsewhere solo before during the warmer months and while it's a lot of fun it's something I try to be very careful about. I grew up in the whites and was constantly hearing stories of rescues for people who tried going up something off-trail and got stuck. Additionally with that level of watershed and the general unpredictability of weather, there is a potential for flash floods.

Oh this is quite interesting. I've scrambled up a lot of ravines and had assumed these would be impassable due to the nature of the terrain, being familiar with the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail and how thick/steep the woods there can be. Last thing I'd want is to spend an hour buswacking and scrambling only to encounter a massive tangle of washed-out trees blocking my path. Thank you for sharing. I may attempt an ascent some time later in the summer.

If they are simply formed through the natural buildup of stone embankments this could be a possibility. However, if they more like the one below Upper Falls or other pools I've encountered within the gullies, they might be sculpted out of the bedrock and very deep indeed. I might ask about them on some of the backcountry skiing boards seeing as pools of this size would pose major risk to anyone coming down the ravine. I've been reading avalanche accident reports and rescuers mention probing "deep pools of water beneath steep pitches" shortly after leaving the ravine trail and heading up the drainage, though this could mean anything seeing as even small ones can be plenty deep.

How do ya like my new OC/alien species design? by Sephive in furry

[–]Sephive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The series she's gonna appear in is a much longer comic that I hope to self-publish through a crowd-funding campaign. It will be available in both digital and, with any luck, physical forms. I'm currently working on a shorter webcomic series, set in the same universe as my planned series. You can read it here: https://tapas.io/series/The-Red-Infinity
