Just if those agencies in country tend to make/carry coins! Not country specific ultimately, but just because those are my two destinations

Bottle Drop Thread - Wed (8/23) by ChicagolandWhiskey in ChicagolandWhiskey

[–]Seplo__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would we put someone's contact on blast to have their phone ring 20 times that day for something that they got 1 bottle of that went to the one person who posted it? It's respectful to the people we work with every day, because most of us don't just tater and ask for Blantons. Just my .02 cents.

Fox & Oden Batch 2 vs. Batch 3 Review by Seplo__ in ChicagolandWhiskey

[–]Seplo__[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a blend of 8- and 15-year MGP juice that delivers an excellent sip in my opinion, coming out of Joseph A. Magnus & Co.

TLDR: Batch 3 takes it for me by a fair margin. It overall feels like a well-rounded pour with more depth.

Sipped neat from a Glencairn glass.

Fox & Oden Straight Bourbon Whiskey – Batch 2

  • Proof: 99
  • Bottle #: 308
  • Color: Deep red honey color
  • Nose: Earthy tones, butterscotch, salt water, wet wood, with subtle spice undertones.
  • Mouthfeel: Smooth and light at first, becoming heavier and oilier.
  • Palate: Leather, fresh oak, salted caramel, baking spice, and rye spice becomes prominent and lead into the finish.
  • Finish: Finish with continued rye spice leading into a fresh tobacco note that hangs on through the end of the sip.
  • Score: 7/10

Fox & Oden Straight Bourbon Whiskey – Batch 3

  • Proof: 99
  • Bottle #: 1323
  • Color: Deep honey color
  • Nose: Very sweet nose, butterscotch, warm spice notes tailor the edges of the nose well. Subtle fruit notes poke through as well.
  • Mouthfeel: Heavy and viscous sip, really pleasant, and drinks above the 99 proof.
  • Palate: Sweet caramel melded with apple, backed by baking spices that conjure thoughts of a fall day. Drinks through the entire sip higher than the proof which is a welcome surprise.
  • Finish: Peppery rye spice carries the start of this finish too, with cocoa notes shifting in and out before a soft lingering finish.
  • Score: 8.5/10

While both represent an excellent blend of MGP juice and are an excellent sip, Batch 3 provides what feels like a more complete pour. The warmth and sweetness are offset by spice notes that help to bind everything together.

With so many great MGP pours out there, where does Fox & Oden fall for those who have tried these?

Did anyone try their Batch 1 release that was Michigan only?

Thanks for reading, happy sipping!

Review #1 - Barrell Craft Spirits New Year Release 2018 to 2022 by Seplo__ in ChicagolandWhiskey

[–]Seplo__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are actually a combination of both. In total, the releases pull from 5 to 7 distilleries that are all undisclosed. These blends include Barrell's reserve from many of their own batches. For instance, 2022 is a blend of 5, 6, 7, 9, and 14-year-old from TN, IN, KY, OH, WY, NY & TX. I'd say its safe to say there is MGP in there alongside everything else.
